I guess it depends on if the depressing movie is a good movie, or worthy of being all depressed and sad. I've seen very sad movies that are wonderful. some seem to have no point.

honestly, I can't even think of any right now. I don't remember taps.
another one that was sad, depressing and good at the same time "Pay it Forward"

I forgot about this one. Definitely SAD but good.

Also , Schindler's List. This is the only movie that I could not finish watching because of profound sadness. To this day I still can't bring myself to watch it.

Yes.
I loved Shindler's List. You should watch it all the way through. It was not what I expected. It was actually a very up lifting movie in the end. Truly a story about the good side of human nature that sometimes only comes out in a horrible situation.

I should try it again. I had just given birth a few weeks earlier and I believe I might have been hormonal.

I'm really striking out on movies this weekend--

Just finished "Delovely," which is about Cole Porter. I watched it because I'm doing "Kiss Me, Kate" in a couple of weeks, and I've always LOVED Porter's music. He's a freakin' genius. Most musical theatre scores take some weird left turns which are nothing more than weird left turns. Porter's left turns are beautiful, amazing, and wonderful. (Delightful! Delicious! Delovely!) I have no idea if I'll even be able to play the stuff in two weeks, it's so difficult, but I've never had more fun playing wrong notes.

I digress...

I didn't really know anything about Cole Porter's life until this week, when my piano teacher started talking about how "naughty" he was. I've had "Delovely" sitting around forever, so I figured now was a good time to watch it. Not exactly the feel-good movie of the century... One more reminder that I'll never be a truly good artist. I'm not tortured enough--I'm too darned happy!

Schindler's List is another movie I'm not going to watch again. I guess I'm done with Holocaust Movies. In a similar vein, my 4 yr old watched The Sound Of Music this year for the first time (Not all the way to the end) but he is obsessed with it. He constantly sings the songs. . .. much to his fathers chagrin! :D

me either.

I didn't see pan's. good?

i'm not sure i really liked it. it was different, to say the least. really not what i expected from guillermo del toro who did blade 2 and hellboy....

Sometimes a depressing movie is a great thing - my pet peeve is when they dishonestly package a depressing movie as a comedy so instead of laughs you get crying and bummed out!

On Golden Pond- love the movie but cry everytime. Part of me still mourning my mom and her suffering, part of me sad to see Katharine Hepburn and Henry Fonda in their last great roles together.

On Golden Pond was one of my favorite movies. I cried at this one too, I had lost my grandpa, who had a summer home on a lake and it reminded me so much of him and my grandma - the way they spoke to each other but you knew how much they really loved one another. Many wonderful memories were spent with them at the lake. We all learned to swim, waterski (well, some of us) and fish there, all under their supervision. Great times!
