Sometimes a depressing movie is a great thing - my pet peeve is when they dishonestly package a depressing movie as a comedy so instead of laughs you get crying and bummed out!

This is how I felt when I saw Running With Scissors. I had read the book and enjoyed it immensely. Augusten Burroughs' story is filled with such rich characters and laugh-out-loud moments (despite it being a relatively dark story) and the movie just sucked all of the humor out of it.

On Golden Pond- love the movie but cry everytime. Part of me still mourning my mom and her suffering, part of me sad to see Katharine Hepburn and Henry Fonda in their last great roles together.

I loved OGP too! They were all so good.

Oh I just thought of another sad movie that Mr. JR and I love and we both cry every time we watch it, "Empire of the Sun." Christian Bale was a little cutie at 12 years old with the lead. A real tear jerker but a happy ending.

Nohall, your boys might really like this movie.

We're watching Shakespeare (Much Ado About Nothing right now, after their weekly vocabulary quizzes) and musicals...I doubt I'll pull out any full-length, recent stuff in class. I did let them watch clips from Benny and Joon last week--we were talking about movement, and Johnny Depp (I know, I know!) does some really funn Buster Keaton stuff in it.

HOWEVER, I love me some adolescent Christian Bale, and they might have to watch Newsies! (And I'm all for movie recommendations for myself!)

They are coming on a field trip next Thursday to see my show, Kiss Me, Kate, which is why I'm forcing Shakespeare and musicals on them right now...

Falling Down is the most depressing movie I've ever seen, I have never left a movie theatre in a more miserable mood...

My Life was the biggest sobfest I've ever seen. Not really depressing, just sad and touching in a Terms of Endearment kinda way

Did anyone ever see Awakenings with DeNiro and Robin Williams? That was the 1st movie I saw right after I gave birth (well not immediately ;-) but maybe 2 weeks after). Man oh man, what a mistake that was. I was sobbing and weeping uncontrollably. It was embarrassing.

Again, it was hormones.
