Point Washington
Shreveport, Louisiana. Spent one night there, our van was broken into, and the thieves took ONE shoe, and a 75% finished needlework project. Now, that's just annoying.

Oh, you did miss a lot. I was lucky. took the ferry into Sitka and spent time with my SIL's brother...he took me hiking in the most wonderful area--all the way to the top of a mountain where we saw bald eagles nesting...it was gorgeous; then, he caught salmon and cooked them--the local part of Sitka is fabulous. I know what you mean, though, if all you saw were the cruiseships and the immediate port area. Too bad. It does have some nice areas with beautiful trees.

Maybe I do need to go again. We hiked all over other little, unpopulated islands and Elfin Cove (population 30) and Baranoff...loved every second of the hot springs and killer waterfall. The kayaking with whales and sea lions rocked. In Sitka we didn't have a lot of time, hiked a bit, hung at a bar and had a great dinner in a tiny gourmet joint. But Capt Lori had us scheduled close to we wouldn't miss the tide. Six people, one sailboat, 10 days...priceless.

Godd Lord, y'all are a bunch of sissies. As avid saltwater fishermen, Mr. C and Critter Jr. LOVE fishing in Empire, Louisiana. With apologies to anyone who lives/lived there. . . .ewwwwww. Pre-Katrina, there were only camp/cabin type places to stay. Once I turned back the sheets to find a 4-inch roach under them. Not to worry though; it was dead. Next time the dead roach was in the sink. Mold ridden black-edged carpet in the bathrooms. Once saw a headless nutria float by at the boat launch, head followed shortly thereafter. At least I could tell which way the tide was running. I think that was the same trip that featured hundreds of dead bait fish floating atop the water, so the nutria nearly was lost in the crowd. Oh, and when the wind's blowing "right" you can catch a whiff of the pogie plant nearby. My friend wins the award, though. She awoke one night in their "hotel" room to find a LIVE rat on her arm. I do believe she returned home that night.

The speckled trout and redfishing are fabulous, though, and I went with the male Critters until Junior was old enough to accompany his dad alone. Should my son ever doubt my love for him, this is my proof. Trust me when I say that NEVER is waaay too soon for me to return.

St Louis Missouri
Branson, MO....but it is a MUST SEE before you die!!

I'm the kind a person who enjoys going to odd places just to see what all the fuss is about (i.e., Bentonville, to see the 1st Walmart; climbing to the top of Diamondhead on Oahu; and visiting Lukenbach, TX; going to Graceland)

Branson is essentially a long, 4-lane parking lot flanked by HeeHaw Shows that start at 8am and close at 7pm interspersed with alternating Waffle and Pancake houses. Picture Gatlinburg only with very old people and not so many miniature golf courses or "As Seen On TV" outlets. Branston does have a really cool old, original 5 & 10-cent store, with original fixtures and sells things from washtubs, to cap guns (with the red paper caps), to penny candy (which now costs about 40-cents each).

.

Man oh man this is kind of harsh , I wish you would have stayed on the lake, much more mellow and peacful. I think your expectations were way too high ! we're just a bunch of good ole' hillbillies ....yeeee haaawww :rotfl:

Is this close to Venice, LA? That's where Sunkist's husband's going on Mother's Day. It sounds similar.
And, yes, I laughed too. Sorry...:rotfl:
