Welcome to the politics of race! This may be the first time some of you have seen this drama unfold, but I have seen it many times in the past. Tagging a caucasian political foe a 'racist' was standard operating procedure for the scuzzier black politicians in New Orleans. Doing this tends to effectively cause at least a week or two of chaos and diversion from actual issues.

Throwing out the 'R bomb' effectively silences people. Case in point, just this week in New Orleans, an honest, devoted and succesful freshman city councilman Arnie Fielkow, who is white (and Jewish) announced he will not run for mayor next year because he does not want to put his family through the torment of having to endure the inevitable 'r bombs' that will be hurled at him. Fielkow already endured that earlier this year when he butted heads with Mayor Ray Nagin regarding development of a flood wrecked area.

So this really doesn't surprise me. Whether or not Wilson is a racist is known only to Wilson. What I do know is that hurling the 'r bomb' is an intellectually dishonest yet very effective tactic to discredit the opposition.

Yes, if said president was advocating for an issue that is so personal to so many and his position was out of phase with Wilson's.

Yes.

Huge numbers of people thought Nixon was an idiot, same for Ford, same for Carter, same for Reagan, same for Bush one, same for Clinton and same for Bush two. Now, lots of people think Obama is an idiot. Par for the course. Not racist in the least bit. But, the R word will be thrown at lots of us for saying he is an idiot.

I believe, but cannot confirm, that Bush two (and Clinton and maybe other presidents) were booed when they addressed congress. I see booing the president in the same light as calling him a liar. He did lie. Should he have been called a liar or booed in the halls of congress. No. Did it happen? Yes. Did he apologize? Yes. Did Obama accept the apology? Yes. Did the Prez call him racist? No.


Whether or not Wilson is racist or not cannot be determined by us on this forum. It is between him and his Maker.

Let it go libs. It's over.

I care what he thinks and he is absolutely right. The degree of hostility and racism on the right is unacceptable. I won't call them conservatives because that proud ideology is dead. It has been replaced by the shrill hate we see from the so called religious right. I expect to see sheets being worn at these republican gatherings soon.

Seems to me it had to do with the way they were dressed (or tatooed in my example), not with the fact that they were black. I bet she wouldn't have batted an eye if the two black guys, or two white guys, or two asians, or ... had been dressed in casual business attire or shorts and tshirts with flip flops or suits or other "normal looking" attire.

What I am talking about (and it appears that Kitty was feeling this too) is the fact that it has nothing to do with racism when your antennae goes up when someone that dresses like a badass makes you uncomfortable be they black, white, red, yellow or brown.

If you dress the part (or tattoo the part or groom the part or all of the above), you should expect some people to be uncomfortable. Doesn't have a thing to do with being racist.

We need to stop stepping on eggshells and be honest regardless of the color of someones skin.

I am probably younger than most of you on this thread, so no disrespect intended. I will also say that most of you are also smarter than I am; that can probably be disputed, but I will save that for another time. I am 25, and have only had the priveledge to vote in 2 elections. I have noticed over my few years that when it comes to politics, no matter which party is sitting in the WH, all that happens is a bunch of finger pointing from the other side.

I remember the right ripping into President Clinton, and remember what happened to President Bush, but I have to say that none of that produced anything. When are we, as Americans(hope that isn't painting with too broad a brush), actually going to start doing something to fix what we see as wrong with Government.

I read an earlier post about someone's family being racist, I'm not picking on you, but doesn't that fall on you to help remedy. Who else better to address your/my family's racism than you/me. It starts with the decisions that we make everyday. It's a lot easier to come here with our secret identities and mouth off about what we "believe", but when it comes to real life situations we tend to shut up and look the other way.

Again, I hope noone is upset about this rant, but lets become proactive, and start doing things instead of just talking about them.

I'm going to take a tad bit of offense here, because you do not know what I do to help remedy and educate. right? I most definitely have not been one to look the other way with my family. I challenge you, who does not know me, to show me where I have. Of course I could do better but actually do much more than I see many others around me do.

Please rethink your statement before labeling. With that said, welcome (and I sincerely mean that - unless you are just joining to be another flamer)

Rita, I apologize. Offending you was not my intent. You are correct, I do not know you, and was just using your example, being that you posted it, to make a point. I know people don't like being clumped together, but, IMO, the people that post in this section tend to just mouth off to each other and try to piss each other off. That was the point I was trying to make. Not that you don't stand up to your family. Again, I apologize, and I am not here to just be a "flamer"(not quite sure what this is). I am concerned about the direction my country is going, and don't think that the status quo is working. I don't care what party affiliation someone has; it's their views and actions I'm concerned about.
