Good grief. I wish the concept of "small government" even existed anymore. I find it ironic how certain ideals of the two parties have seemingly flip flopped. Democrats tend think that the government should stay out of social issues, such as abortion, gay marriage, etc. And this is democratic voters I am speaking of here. All of the actual candidates never come out clearly and say "I think gays should be able to marry." No, they're way too afraid of pissing off a large group of people, and losing votes.
The republicans are for tax cuts, personal responsibility, etc. Once upon a time, I hear they believed in this 'small government' idea. Telling a woman what she can and cannot do with her own body, openly trying to pass DISCRIMANATORY laws against homosexuals, rooting for more prayer and religion and intelligent design being taught in schools, filling our court systems with and wasting our tax dollars on people for smoking pot...well, those sort of actions aren't really my idea of small government. What happened?
All I really want is a socially liberal, fiscally conservative candidate that is not afraid to take a stand on social issues just because they don't want to offend. The government should deal with issues such as money, war, and creating laws that actually protect the public. Politicians really need to stay out of my private, social life.
