I have lived in my house for 12 1/2 years. I have replaced my mailbox 4 times. We live in the country and I guess the kids get a kick out of bashing the mailboxes. I have had the same one now for about 2 years with no apparent bashing. I guess those kids grew up and moved away. YEA!!!!

Some guy a couple years back went around my neighborhood and PULLED them out of the ground with his pickup. He'd leave them laying in the street. (That's why mine has 240 pounds of concrete at the bottom)

I guess he hated vertical mailboxes. They caught the guy and he wound up going to jail on previous rape charges. He's still locked up.

Oh I can see the headline. "Previous mailbox basher goes to jail on rape charges". It starts innocently with bashing mailboxes then leads to more sinister offenses!!!! I guess it could happen! Glad they caught him.

BR, I read too many mysteries but that is soooo freaky!!
Keep your eyes open for sure!! Someone is messing with your mind!!
Years ago we had a good friend who was so totally "off" and was sending anonymous notes to some of us....he was the last person in the world we would ever have suspected....I mean, upstanding, prominent, well-known, respected person!! (There is a lot more to the story but it would be a book!!)
Bottom line, nothing surprises me anymore!!!
Just be careful & keep your antenna up!!

Your mailbox mystery is interesting BR. Where's Miss Marple?

pk305: If someone wanted to "mess with your mind", wouldn't they more likely have done it sooner? I think it would be awfully hard for someone to wait 10 years to try to weird her out. (Unless they just came up with the idea recently..?...) :dunno:

I'm inclined to go with the theory that it got dislodged from somewhere in the mailbox after the second hit.

I can't seem to get this mystery off my mind...what I've learned from my vantage point of venerable age is that it's never the person you suspect. Heard a lot of stories...it was never the one suspected. Very interesting "problem" to try to figure out...and a little skeery too BR fo' shizzle dizzle
