Much thanks again! All's well that ends well. No complaints from Philippa about seeing the dentist before Christmas. Just as well I didn't override her and schedule for this week because she just had her last round of shots/vaccinations for college, AND her first gyn exam. My poor baby's getting it all around...I think getting her teeth yanked really would have been the last straw! :yikes:

Oh, Kitty--you ARE heartless! :rotfl:

Sometimes. :D I guess you haven't heard my wisdom teeth extraction story. It's been on here more than once. It also sounds to me a typical story with Pippi, cause it happens to all parents of kids leaving for college for the first time. I bet she has waited until the last minute to get all this stuff done. They drag their feet and make you nag at them. Mine drove me absolutely crazy...until a wise friend who had done this before told me that the kiddos are just as nervous and freaked out about leaving as you are and find hanging with their friends comforting. I was told it is God's way of making you "want" them to leave.

You are an all-knowing Kitty. I forgot to mention that we still have an eye doctor's appointment to sqeeze in...and you know it's not going to happen, so I'll end up driving to Purdue to pick her up one day, getting her to her appointment, and then rushing back so she won't miss a class. Or do you think we can do teeth and eyes all on the same day??

So true, I've said this many times; if they acted like sweet 3 year olds we would never be able to let them go.

Grayt 411, cheering472 :D I've also heard of someone getting the dry socket from feeling it with their tongue too much, the socket, that is. ;-)

Yes that happens too. The more you fiddle with it the more your chances of loosening the clot. Your mouth heals differently than an injury on your skin. Extractions heal from the bottom up. The open socket closes on the gum last. The blood clot forms first as a protective layer (almost like a scab on exposed skin) except this is in the bottom of the socket so it can easily be dislodged. We used to tell patients to not even drink things extremely hot for the first few hours after surgery and to leave it alone. No swishing or spitting etc.

I've never had one, but the people that have say it's worse than the toothache they came in for originally.

My brother and I both had ours removed before I went to college as a preventitive measure (better to schedule it, then have a problem during school was the thinking). With me, Mom just got to be entertained by me being goofy coming out of anesthesia and then I had to avoid certain foods for a couple days - didn't even fill the prescription for pain pills. My brother (of course) had some minor complications and freaked Mom out because he seemed to be bleeding alot. He had major puffy cheeks for a day or two, mine lasted maybe a day. We both had the surgery friday and were back at school monday and eating normally in a couple days.

I vote she have the surgery now rather then at food heavy holidays as the worst part for me was the dietary limitations.

The only concern my parents had about doing it was that we would be under anesthesia.
