Thanks for the link.

That's major depreciation!

hmmm - could reviving the "dead horse" be a way to bump a thread for promotional purposes?..

Yeppers - nr light, Natalie at Ecco Motors, is practicing creative marketing on us! Problem is .... I would want to deal with someone I trusted to be honest and forthright with information. That hasn't proven to be the case here. nr light could have identified herself as being associated with an LSV company, presented her links and information, and been considered an agent who believed in her product enough to try to promote it. BUT instead she chose to sneakily make her case for LSVs while hiding her association. That is unfortunate.
TreeFrog - you were spot on with your observation!

dead horse? 46 states approve, and its a dead horse in South Walton, because people with enough time on their hands to post often, support the prolific SoWal buddy on his and like two others initial rejection of the plan that would potentially cost them as much as 5 seconds a few times a year??

The simple truth is that about fifteen or more independent members of SoWal have voiced their opinions, based on logic, practicality, and a presentation of facts, that they consider the lowering of speed limits along 30A, to proliferate LSVs, to be a bad idea. There appears to be about four people whose opinion differs from that. At least two of those people appear to have a financial stake in LSVs. In general, a large majority of SoWal members think this is a really bad idea. Just accept that.

Yep. You got me. I work for Ecco Motors.

I graduated college not too long ago so I still haven't been able to afford Internet, much less a computer in my apt. Ecco is letting me keep my email address for personal and work related use.

I chose to keep my anonymity because I was in no way coming from a place of money making or profiteering. I simply believe in these vehicles, on a personal level. I have been providing valid, documented, and available research to back my opinions. (I'm thinking about writing a paper for a Master's)

I am sorry that you may think I am misleading you. I have seen how personal your attacks on these forums can be. I thought my opinions & research would be quickly dismissed/ignored/spat on if I gave myself away completely. But I never lied.

I wanted to join all discussions on this topic. I think it is an exciting topic. I have family members who have built and raced electric cars. I try to stay active in the Go Green Taskforce and other Earth-Friendly initiatives in the area.

Yes, I worked* (and will hopefully continue to work) with Ecco Motors. Not sorry for that. I worked with them because I believe in the green movement, not the other way around.

Just a beach hippie trying to come from a place of positivity.

Cool ... It would serve you better to be up front next time. People respect that and will give more attention to what you offer. Geo gave you a perfect opportunity to come forward on your own.
Good luck with your grad work - if you end up researching that.

cool... party on nr light. don't let the haters thinking they're in some super majority get you down. In a country like America, where LSV's have been encouraged to be used via legisltation in blue states, red states, purple states, 46 states in total, rest assured that if the powers that be on this board, were actually representative of Walton County, (and especially South Walton) it's safe to BET YOUR ASS, that a supermajority would totally be for LSV's, and would welcome efforts to expand their usage a bit in South Walton...

You probably messed up a bit or were distracted about not revealing your financial interest. I myself am about to make some investments in some select green technology companies, and am bewildered a bit by oppostion to this in South Walton, of all places. I think they just dug their heels in early, based on their anecdotal hatred of bad tourist driving behaviour in general, and the rest was history.

Robertsondavies,

A dead horse is when the same people keep saying the same things and there is pretty much nothing else left to say that would change things.

I acknowledge that I should have my head examined for jumping back in here. But I can't resist calling BS, especially when it's on folks who are going out of their way to rib me. So back to the discussion-

You're now saying that the opposition to lowering the speed limit is futile (my words, not yours) when considering that 46 other state legislatures have already agreed (your words).

But you left out the important part. You never said exactly what 46 state legislatures have agreed on.

Is it:

A) 46 States have agreed to allow LSV's to be licensed, registered and driven on roads where the speed limit is 35MPH or less (like here)

Or is it:

B) 46 States have agreed to lower the speed limit on rural highways from 45MPH to 35MPH to accomodate a small group of LSV enthusiasts.

If you can prove B then I take back what I said about your arguments being weak because this would mean that your case is evidently strong enough to influence those in power to implement your desired changes.

But if you can only prove A then your statement that your other arguments "won the day in 46 state legislatures" is useless here.

Cheers, Geo

P.S. Who exactly is this "prolific SoWal buddy" you speak of?

My observation would be that SoWal has a situation that many other areas do not have, which is a scarcity of east-west roads to travel through the area. From 331 east, you've got 30A and you've got 98, and that's pretty much it. Not your typical area, even for Florida.
I would add that this is in no way a plea for more roads to be built through the area. Just saying that these two roads are very important.

i guess this didn't cover this in the masters of arts in communications, but state legislatures delegate authority to counties, to decide speed limits on county roadways.

I'm out on this dead horse. I've got no dog in the hunt... I'm fine with it, keep LSV's from making the vaunted Deer Lake run. wouldn't want to slow traffic down for 5 more seconds, strictly unless you are a cyclists , and then it's all cool and acceptable..... wooohooo...

I just have a deeply held conception of South Walton as a progressive and unique area, where we could incubate a few new concepts that jive with new urbanism, not against it. - lowering the speed limit on a spit of roadway, to favor LSV usage (over GMC Yukon reliance) to connect the "fake" communties of 30A to a realization of what they really are, one community. Motion for a hearing denied by a goodly portion of the frequent poster cartel. - Drive like a bat out of hell on your little spit of 45MPH heaven.. enjoy.

peace out.

As luck would have it, I was on the bicycle/pedestrian path along 30-A today. I saw a guy whip into the passing lane heading west, and wouldn't you know, here is a guy on a golf cart on 30-A. He was obviously tooling down 30-A across Western Lake (illegally) and had a freaking traffic jam worth or cars behind him. He pulled over at the state forest running trail access to let cars pass (how nice). Sorry that my pics are suboptimal, but it drives home the fact that golf carts are NOT appropriate for 30-A.
