That's opposte my experience Kurt. The last time I was in Seaside, I snapped a photo on my phone of the modica area, and it was WALL to Wall the worst offending MPG hogs in the world... Armada, Hummer, Armada, Tahoe, Yukon, Suburban, Expedition (poor folks),

The picture, to me, spoke a thousand words. Walton County might make the next edition of The Onion, if they can seriously be seen to be leading a charge against LSV's, and off shore drilling simultaneously, while chomping down fish tacos at Bud & Alleys surrounded by Tahoes and Armadas... what a cool story this is going to be.

I'm guessing you're not posting said picture because they are all out of state license plates?

The odds are those same folks are also running their A/C at home. Is there no end to the energy madness?

The good news about Electric Vehicles is that used ones will be really, really cheap. According to this study in the UK, a five year old EV will only have about 10% of its initial value.

I'm of the opinion that the oil industry loves it that folks believe driving big cars and running the ac is madness because it means they're fighting a losing battle. While I commend folks on their intentions I do not believe that meaningful change comes from golf carts or sweating while inside. I believe meaningful change comes from mandates that will help push technology and alternate forms of
energy that allow Americans to drive as much as they want and to be comfortable in their homes.

The real tragedy is that we as a nation have known that we need energy independence since 1973. We need a nationwide, man-on-the-moon style effort aimed at developing affordable. clean, renewable energy coupled with the construction (or retrofit) of energy efficient homes and businesses.

However, our success in the Space Race was not driven by a desire to escape taxation. The effort was actually extremely well led. I am skeptical that simply imposing carbon taxes on everyone (especially since these taxes will hit lower income folks especially hard) will be a successful substitute for the leadership and vision we need to do this.

You also have to remember that the space race didn't have an over one hundred year old industry before it started. The real issue with renewable energy is keeping it profitable for the giant corporations that control it. Free or extremely cheap energy is the death nail in a massive industry. I thought you were for jobs?

The italics are tongue in cheek and meant as sarcasm not to start a fight, pick apart the rest.

Friction from special interests and lobbyists is the only viable explanation for why no administration will attempt to put together a coherent policy to encourage the development of clean, alternative energy.

That would include any Administration attempting to implement cap&trade. Cap&trade is a way for a few people to make a lot of money. It is not designed to spur energy development. That's the last thing anyone who supports cap&trade wants.
