A friend of mine called me today and told about her new puppy.
She said it was a "Labradoodle". I said what is that? I thought they named the puppy that, then she explained that was the breed name.
Apparently its a non-allergenic dog that's a mix of a labrador and a poodle.
(Must be painful for the poodle involved with mating with the Lab :funn:

So I went on-line and checked them out. I can't decide if they are funny looking or really cute. :dunno: But you can't helping loving man's best friend.

While I was looking up the doodle, I found these other new breeds:

The American Kennel club has decided to recognize these new breeds of dogs that are the result of cross breeding.

Collie + Lhaso Apso: Collapso, a dog that folds up for easy transport.
Spitz + Chow Chow: Spitz-Chow, a dog that throws up a lot.
Bloodhound + Borzoi: Bloody Bore, a dog that"s not much fun.
Pointer + Setter: Poinsetter, a traditional Christmas pet. Kerry Blue Terrier + Skye Terrier: Blue Skye, a dog for visionaries.
Pekingese + Lhaso Apso: Peekasso, an abstract dog.
Labrador Retriever + Curly Coated Retriever: Lab Coat Retriever, the choice of research scientists.
Newfoundland + Labrador: Blabrador, a dog that barks incessantly.
Malamute + Pointer: Moot Point, owned by?oh, well, it doesn"t matter anyway.
Collie + Malamute: Commute, a dog that travels to work.
Deerhound + Terrier: Derriere, a dog that"s true to the end.

My sister just got a Golden Doodle and she is the most precious puppy I've ever seen. She is a mix of a standard poodle and a golden retriever....a really pretty animal and so far, very sweet.

One of our neighbors at SoWal has a GoldenDoodle. He are absolutely adorable.

My standard poodle comes from the Westminster-level show dog set that absolutely despises cross-breeding. They are very militant about it. I was on an email list from one of the most famous standard poodle breeders, and I had to remove myself from it because of all of the crazy email I was receiving.

I think our neighbor's dog is beautiful. Plus the cross-breeding cuts down on the diseases caused by in-breeding.

My kids drag me into Petland every chance they get. Most of ours don't even have normal purebred dogs anymore! They're all some kind of cross...a pomjack, lhasapoo, cockapoo, for example. It's not just the poodles anymore. I think it's a great way to reduce shedding and allergies breeding with a poodle but now it's getting crazy. They used to be called mutts! Now they charge over a grand for them at Petland. ( not that I would buy from a pet store)

I  mutts by the way.

Aren't they adorable? I first heard about them a few years ago on the Today Show. They're supposedly the perfect dog; the lab part makes them good natured and great with kids, and the poodle part makes them great for people with allergies.

I also wondered about how the poor female poodle could possibly handle a lab, but I was told that there are various size labradoodles depending on the type/size of the poodle. From what I understand, they use the larger breed of poodles to mate with the labs.

I haven't checked into the price recently, but a few years back they were in the $2K range and were all the rage among Hollywood stars.

I never knew they existed. :dunno: Maybe because I have n't been in the market for dog. I can't believe there are so many mixes now.
My Mr. Roobie cat told me he does not want a doggie mate, so I have to abide by his wishes. I tried with an English Setter, white with one black patch over his eye (adorable puppy named Petey) but Mr. Roobie would have nothing to do with him.
I think the brown labradoodle pup looks like a teddy bear.
