How is the food at Commander's Palace these days?

We've been there many times. Our architect lived a block or so away, and that was his favorite restaurant. When we took him to dinner there, the entire staff would line up to shake his hand.

Our worst memory from Commander's was when we had made brunch reservations and arrived to see that it was closed because the kitchen had burned down.

Our best memory from Commander's (other than many meals there with our architect) was an Easter Sunday brunch when our daughter was two-years old, and the staff served her stuffed Easter bunny with a plate of trimmed carrots with stems. She was so excited!

Where would you all suggest staying for a weekend visit? What about Monteleone Hotel or Loews?

We stayed at the Comfort Inn just a couple blocks off the West end of Bourbon Street for $79 a nite. Very quiet room with a fridge and micro. All we did was stop in to look over maps and to sleep and so this place worked out perfect.
Put the truck in a nearby parking garage and walked everywhere we went. I believe we walked every road in the quarter...including most of the North/South ones!
Saturday we ate at least 6 times. Always tried to hit samplers and appetizers so we didn't get full and got lots of chances to sample lots of places. I can't even remember all the names of the places. Got to see the man with the board on his shoulder, the guy with the big stride and top hat, the guy dressed like a robot, the baby guy and several others all trying to entertain for a few dollars. Got some video of three amazing dancer guys doing rap moves.

We walked the quarter near lunch time and then headed over to the river market district for awhile. Came back through the quarter just after dark to see a completely different, and much wilder, crowd. Came back the next morning around 8 to see them pressure washing the streets from the night before. Oh, but some people were going to wake up the next day with sore heads...

First time my wife ever got to go there. She says that is the weirdest place she's ever been bar none. We'll be back.

Weird and wild must be seen about 3am, :) most don't get out until midnight.
