I probably should have used the word class. You know, it's just something you can't teach.

No matter what you think of Obama, it's hard to argue that he didn't handle this in exactly the right manner. Reports are was that he was as shocked as anyone and the W.H. had nothing prepared. I feel confident that he at least considered not accepting, but really, he couldn't do that either. His speech today was pitch-perfect and his decision to donate the $1.4 million award to charity was exactly the right thing to do. I hope he can do it without owing any tax, and I hope to hear exactly where the money is going.

why? for what?

i could say alot more based on what ive read and clips ive heard this morning, but i will say this. can you imagine bush getting a peace price while conducting two wars. the koolaid drinkers are drunk today boy!

wilson and rosevelt.....both progressives. just like jimmy carter, all gore and obama. obviously al was not prez.

this is proof without a doubt that this is the progressive peace prize.

in just under one year into his presidency he has inspired hope though. hope that giving a great speech can put you in the most powerful office in the world. hope that no matter how many times your wrong on military stradegy you can be vice president. hope that if you propose painting all rooftops world wide white one can be appointed energy czar. or hope that forced abortions or accusing whites of chemical pollution can get you a czar appointment.

wish i had more time....got to get back to work.

huh? respectfully, i havent understood any post of yours todays. this has nothing to do with "peace". its supposed too, but it doesnt

exposing killer terrorists to the world and starting the movement of ridding the world of terror is a peaceful gesture is it not? it aint gonna be easy and the president is finding that apologizing and having a cup of tea aint gonna bring about peace. but, itll get you a nobel prize though:dunno:

what did he accomplish before becoming president other than minipulating the folks to think he's someone he's not on the campaign trail?

im amazed that if it was a repub in the oval office and got this award, he or she would have had to bring world peace to reality before being recognized.

the hypocrisy is transparent...

this has nothing to do with "peace" though..... i only want to be a part of something real

respectfully, how can you compare the two? nobel peace prize is exactly what it reads and theres no "peace" accomplishments. in fact, he's done the complete opposite by apologizing for america and siding with dictators.

i think he got the award because of exactly this. the world has always been jelous of this nation and they always will. and by having a u.s. prez apologize for our accomplishments is music to their ears thus the reward. what did carter and arafat (wrong spelling i know) do for peace? this org has now shown to be a joke, just like the academy awards.

to me its a smack in the face to those who actually tried and/or succeeded in bringing about peace to the world and/or parts of it.

im just saying....

that makes alot of sense.....NOT! :rotfl:

and your reference to sarah palin is about as simple-minded as one could get. i see the hate palin train is running through your crib daily. :dunno:

I'm sure if you were to ask nicely, the President would apologize for ruining your day.:whack:

No luster on Nobel Prize

What does his time in office have to do with this? He didn't need to be President in order to win this award.

The being President really isn't the big deal, perhaps what you didn't get from many of our comments was the part about what did he do before he was nominated that was so peace oriented that made him deserving of this award? I personally think this award has lost its luster over the years...it really isn't that meaningful and honorable anymore. It has become a political award...granted by a political bunch. It has lost its purpose and its luster. Even Obama seems to regret receiving the honor(?). Good for him!

What you say has absolutely nothing to do with my remarks. I addressed a poster who seemed to think that Obama's time in office should have had some relevance. It doesn't.

Obama does not regret receiving the award. I watched his speech. He is well aware that often the Nobel prize historically has sometimes been used as a vote of confidence ("give momentum to a set of causes"). Whatever the case, he won it, it's a done deal. Be happy for him or continue to be bitter. The choice is yours.

It amazes me the number of folks who are still enamored with this guy! What on earth for? Obama makes a pretty speech or two (via the teleprompter) and gets the award. A man who has devoted his life to rescuing young girls from abuse and prostitution rings in Africa gets zero. Al Gore makes a movie about a discredited Global Warning theory and wins while a woman who put her life on the line rescuing Jews during the Holocaust gets zip. The Nobel Prize is a farce.

Was Oslo Loony to Award Obama? Maybe Not -- Politics Daily
as one of my dearest mentors told me, perhaps the esteemed Norwegian Nobel Committee in Oslo was awarding a leadership trait that stands apart from epithets, threats and generally self-centered, Wild-Wild-West diplomacy. While many of us strain to hear the chords of peace, perhaps Oslo has picked up on its faint sounds. Peace, as my mentor reminded me, starts with the person who attempts to diffuse the tension and backs away from the inflammatory rhetoric. Peace-making amid rage is a peculiar strength and does not mean the process of peace is done. But because we often link might with war, our perceptions of strength and peace are skewed. Verbal muscle is determined by skirmishes of raw words. Peace, like the 100-pound weakling we love to taunt, is shoved into the corner with fists.

Although not its first controversial selection, as Newsweek.com points out, the Nobel Committee risked its prestige to acknowledge the leadership of a sitting president shifting the tone of a global dialog, even when his administration has hardly begun. The award may embarrass Obama, who accepted it humbly, but my guess is that the Nobel Committee understands that prophets of any generation can be without honor among their own, especially when their voices are first emerging.

Musing even further, I wonder if by awarding Obama, was the Nobel Committee inviting the world to celebrate a leadership style that tries to resist the rant factor? Dr. Ellen Weber, president of the MITA International Brain Based Center, tapped into this on Twitter when she shared her blog post, "Obama Leads Peace with Brain in Mind." She cited Obama's leadership approach as "valuing differences," "emulating teachability," "taking risks," and "caring for people more than cold programs or rigid policies." And President Shimon Peres of Israel said in a letter to Obama on Friday: "Very few leaders if at all were able to change the mood of the entire world in such a short while with such a profound impact. You provided the entire humanity with fresh hope, with intellectual determination, and a feeling that there is a lord in heaven and believers on earth."

Apparently, Obama's eligibility for the prize did not hinge on launching a movement to ensure workers' rights to organize, as did Lech Walsea; or challenging the racial barriers of the South, as did Martin Luther King, Jr.; or ministering to the poor in Calcutta, as did Mother Teresa. Maybe Obama was given the prize simply because so far he has sought the words of peace, not because he has single-handedly implemented a full manifestation of its presence.

How we do achieve peace on earth is up to all of us.

Sour grapes.
