First, Obama supported public financing of presidential campaigns. Now, he wants to take advantage of his grassroots fundraising ability and has changed his mind. From a campaign standpoint, it makes lots of sense. From a long-term policy standpoint, it shows another side of him.
New York Times columnist David Brooks (a Republican) has written a very interesting piece about Obama's two personalities.
"This guy is the whole Chicago package: an idealistic, lakefront liberal fronting a sharp-elbowed machine operator. He’s the only politician of our lifetime who is underestimated because he’s too intelligent. He speaks so calmly and polysyllabically that people fail to appreciate the Machiavellian ambition inside."
I don't agree with all he says, but it's worth a read. Obama is definitely not a John Kerry. Check it out
