First, Obama supported public financing of presidential campaigns. Now, he wants to take advantage of his grassroots fundraising ability and has changed his mind. From a campaign standpoint, it makes lots of sense. From a long-term policy standpoint, it shows another side of him.

New York Times columnist David Brooks (a Republican) has written a very interesting piece about Obama's two personalities.

"This guy is the whole Chicago package: an idealistic, lakefront liberal fronting a sharp-elbowed machine operator. He’s the only politician of our lifetime who is underestimated because he’s too intelligent. He speaks so calmly and polysyllabically that people fail to appreciate the Machiavellian ambition inside."

I don't agree with all he says, but it's worth a read. Obama is definitely not a John Kerry. Check it out

Better than no personality!!!
More of the same McCain is a flip flopper. He wants to reward oil companies who have record profit with more easy money as they tar our beaches! We have a chance to get our country back from the oil men that stole it, and are bleeding us daily.

What would Obama do to bring down the price of gasoline?

This implies that opening drilling of the Florida coast would bring down the price of oil, and subsequently gasoline. It won't.

I've implied nothing. The question is an honest one based on the bolded quote.

I've implied nothing. The question is an honest one based on the bolded quote.

The bolded quote says 'take back our country from the oil men' not bring down the cost of gasoline. The question doesn't flow logically from the statement.

What would McCain do? Nothing, give them more access to oil that is dirtier and more expensive to refine, therefore using more energy to refine and continuing high gas prices. It's only worth going for shale oil and high inclusion oil if light sweet crude is more than $80 a barrel.

Perhaps some oversight of the oil investulators, and some investment in research to move us to alternative energy sources would give us energy prices that are somewhat more affordable that $80+ oil. Perhaps not, but at least it's not just keeping us on track to become a dinosaur of a country rooted in 20th century technology while Asia develops an infrastructure based on efficiency and conservation making us even less able to compete and continuing the decline of the middle class standard of living in this country.

I started a new thread for my question because my question really took this thread off topic.

To respond to Brooks' article, I think it is grossly unfair and he cooked up some things to make his point. Obama can hardly blamed for not throwing his pastor under the bus initially; he cannot be blamed for finally doing it. Obama strikes me a man of honor, a family man and an excellent speaker. Not quite sure how Brooks turned his speaking abilities into proof of a dual personality.

Thread was about campaign financing

Thanks for commenting on the thread. So, what about campaign financing? One reason I posted this article is that so many Obama detractors have accused Obama of being "soft" even called him "sissy man" because of his bowling style! Although Brooks saddled him with some pretty strong, negative actions -- he also "damned him with faint praise" by saying he had the kind of strength that could stand up to the Putins and dictators of the international community. I would hope that someone running for President of the United States understands and can cope with the nuances of power.
