I'd like someone to explain to me how intelligent people can believe that the pro-life issue trumps every other issue...from watching the Republican convention speeches and the McCain/Palin interviews and reaction over the last couple of days, the fact that Palen is pro-life--she said she would "outlaw" all abortion except when the Mother's life is at stake-- seems to be the only issue that "energizes" the base.

I don't get it. How can one be pro-life when it comes to a woman's ability to choose...and pro capital punishment, pro war, and pro guns...

I am hoping that the selection of Gov Palin for the VP slot will force more people to wake up and see what is happening.

So what are they? And I wonder how they feel?

Not sure how exactly to answer that...conservative agenda. Baseball, hot dogs, apple pie and Chevrolet...America: Love it or leave it...I haven't investigated it beyond face value, to be honest.

You are a perfect example of a Christian, some would say a minority group, who cannot leave others alone. Imagine for a moment folks worshiping in church, and feeling satisfied to keep their religion out of public venues. Sounds reasonable and lawful don't you think? ... Is not the act of praying a religious activity?......To answer your question about tolerance, look to the constitution, for it's framers knew any state that allowed no religion, or had a dominant state religion was the greatest evil to be avoided. I remember, as a teenager, being harrassed by evangelicals who tried to witness to others, at lunch, waiting for the bus, handing out religious quotes and pamphlets in the library etc. It was unlawful, but was once "tolerated". Just as blacks were stiff armed from voting. Your ideals sir, are a throwback to a period in America where freedom and justice were for the select crowd......I am thankful to be an American who is free to call you out on very un-American behavior.

And you are a perfect example of someone that takes what I say and injects all of your own opinions and assumptions. I realized when I made the statement that I was going to have to deal with several people who would twist what I say around in some sort of misguided effort to paint me as the bad guy. I am just surprised, and saddened, as to who is doing the twisting.

It is my understanding that such groups meet before or after school. There is also Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

I am paying close attention to the case over in Santa Rosa County, where school officials are accused of misusing their positions to promote their religious beliefs. It is shocking that this is happening in 2008.

Is this a county by county thing..My son did not go to school here; but in the Florida school he did attend, there were lots of clubs, but all tied to educational events, not religious ones.

[. There are quite a few Jewish Republicans: Henry Kissinger, Ari Fleischer, Michael Chertoff, Arlen Specter, William Cohen and William Kristol to name a few.
Any women that you know of?

Here is my burning question for the evening. I chewed on this while taking an otherwise enjoyable walk at sunset.

In 2008, is it possible to be a committed Republican and not be a Christian?

By "committed" Republican, I mean a staunch supporter of the party platforms as they are laid out today, 2008. With the GOP placing such a heavy emphasis on Christian ideals, how is it possible to be a Jewish, Buddhist, Muslim, or even a Mormon Republican? (I threw Mormon in there because the Christian Right kept screaming that Mormons weren't "real" Christians when Romney was still in the running for nominee.)

Can we say that the GOP is the party of Christians?

I am racking my brain trying to think if I know any Republicans that aren't Christian. I can't think of a one.
Thanks Gypsea. I am curious what they think of the Christian right- or do they just ignore them?

I hope nobody thinks this is a smarta$$ question. I am totally serious. And I still can't think of anyone that I know personally.

Very interesting take on things. Here is a website that I found but have not completed reading. http://www.muslimrepublicans.net/

Romney seems to be doing pretty well handling it. But you are correct. There is quite a bit of emphasis placed on Christian ideals within the party.

Are you serious? Do they receive tax money for this? Time away from educational programs?

Whatever is the purpose of this? What faculty member is involved? What authority does this operate under?

Is any religious group allowed to use school facilities for a meeting place? Are these groups in all Walton County schools?

Yes.

I doubt it.

I do not think so.

Extra curricular activity

The sponsor

The Constitution of the United States of America.

All groups have to be treated equally when accessing public facilities.

I do not know.

Thank you. I don't know why this had never occurred to me before today. I was raised Republican and Christian, but in no way would my family ever have embraced the "Republican Christian Conservative" stuff. It all seems so exclusionary now.:sosad:

I don't think it's smart@$$. I think it's a great point. As for the Jewish segment, I still think of them as "people of faith." And I think that the ones I know have faith in patriotism, which is like a religion. I think you're completely right to draw a connection.
