The Kid in Grayton Beach

The kid who was caught near the Red Bar is not going around breaking into anyones cars. He is 12 years old and got caught doing one of the stupid things boys do. I talked to him that afternoon after it happened. He was not going to take anything. He just opened the car door. Both the mom and son have lived in the community for over 5 years. She is a small business owner, and supports all local business on 30-A. It would be great if the nice people of 30-A would let this go as a dumb kid move and stop acting like the mob moved in to our town.

Hey Troll Skemeer8 stealing if Fu%$ing stealing. As far as dumb kid I'm not buying it. Just like the kid on T.V. when the dog attacked him (I wasn't doing anything honest.) Kurt can delete this if he wants, but the cops around here don't do a damn thing about anything and if I catch ya stealing I'm gonna give ya a blindsided arss beating!:welcome::bang::bang:

We're not "acting like the mob moved into town," we're discussing recent thefts in the area in a thread that started when someone posted about something stolen from a car.

For some crazy reason a kid caught going into a car that didn't belong to him became part of the thread.

Obviously I don't think the kid you are referring to is responsible for all the thefts, but he's hopefully learning pretty quickly that once you lose people's trust (esp. in a small town), you are then treated w/ suspicion, even if you're doing nothing wrong.

BTW "doing what boys (or kids) do" has never been a valid justification for ANY behavior in my eyes and I don't care how long you've lived here if you are breaking the law.

You should focus your outrage on the kid's actions, not on the people who are condemning criminal activity and looking out for their neighbors. If you believe that he was going into someone's car, but was not going to take anything or do anything else objectionable, I hear there's a bridge for sale in Brooklyn!

Wow

Greenroomsufer thank you for the hateful word towards me. I am not saying what he did was right. I am not sayiong you have to "buy it" either. I was just responding to the talk about him and his mother. I do agree that the police need to do more during the busy season to prevent crime. I see more cop cars stiiing in parking lots together at night talking then driving around.

skeemer, you make it sound as though I posted photos, names and descriptions of the kid who was caught breaking into a car in Grayton, and his mother. If I did, I could see how you might get a little defensive for the kid and his mom. Just curious, you mentioned that you spoke with the kid after the incident. What punishment did his mother give him? My mother would have beat my butt right there in front of the Red Bar and would have made me apologize to the owner of the vehicle. BTW, "breaking into a car or a home" doesn't necessarily mean breaking windows or doors. In some states, placing your hand into an entry of a car or home, without permission, is deemed a "breaking an entering."

break in at Seagrove

Just wanted to let yall know about another break in in Seagrove. I clean a couple of houses there and I had to get some laundry done one day, and decided to finish up after work that night. I worked late and figured i would get up the next morning early and do it since the owners were coming that day. I got there at 8am and the doors were wide open. I looked in and seen the tv gone dvd player, cd player, and the area rug, yes, the rug!!! i called the police before i touched anything. One cop came out and i had to offer up suggestions of taking fingerprints (since the rug they took had a heavy glass top table on it that i had cleaned the day before i was sure there would be prints) and asking any neighbors if they seen anything. Turns out they broke in the basement window, stole numerous tvs and electronics, and were even eating while they were doing it since there was food crumbs everywhere! i felt so bad for the owners who told me that someone broke in there garage about six months back and took all there surfboards. I told the cop I was freaked out since i was going to go back by myself late last night to finish up, and all he said was "eh it was just some kids and if they would of seen your car they would of left" he didnt know that! when they took the surfboards there was a car in the driveway! i feel so bad for the owners, and the fact that nothing has been done about it. All we have heard is if no one saw anything, there really isnt much to go on! I can tell you i will never go to finish a house by myself at night again though! Yall be careful out there, and just dont be fooled that nothing bad happens here, most of us learn it the hard way.

Many subdivisions and owners of commercial areas hire off duty officers to patrol/be seen on their property. So sometimes they are sitting in one place for a reason....

I once had a neighbor down here who had a break in, and he too, had to ask the Sheriff's Deputy to take fingerprints. He said that the deputy wasn't willing to do anything, and that the deputy was asking him, who he thought broke in. Give me a break! The deputy told my neighbor that WalCo doesn't have a crime team of investigators, so their hands are tied. That is reason number one not to rely on the police to protect you. I've mentioned that in the gun rights threads, but it tends to go out many ears. I'm sure it takes much time in collecting fingerprints, and those in a rental unit, could be too numerous to conduct investigations and get any real work done. "Oh, just a TV and sterio were taken? It'll be okay. They won't come back."
