I don't want him, and I did hate him. Well, hate is a harsh word. I disliked him very much. At least I am honest about it.![]()
I don't love Spurrier either...How about Bama just get a new line coach and keep Shula for a bit longer?!?!?!

I think football is just beyond ridiculous. If Alabama would give a good coach a chance to grow the team, regardless of losses to Auburn, then they just might get somewhere one day. I really can't stand the politics and win-win-win at all cost mindset... The sport has no soul...
It's a little more complicated than that. You have to understand the way the landscape of college football is right now to have a clear understanding of why this happened.
Bottom line, Mike Shula was given an opportunity to save his job by proposing changes. He refused to do so. Therefore, the UA folks had no choice but to dismiss him.
When Spurrier left Florida, he said 11 years is probably long enough for one coach to be at one school and that any longer wouldn't be good for the man or the school. Call him what you will but dumb he's not.
If Bama has fired Shula before securing a top notch replacement then they may be doomed to repeat recent mistakes. Alabama has gotten themselves into a real mess and unless they hit a homerun things may not get better and Tubberville will continue to benefit.
We'll see if someone like Petrino or Rodriguez step up but my belief is they are too smart to go to a place where expectations are too high and the trigger too quick. But money is loud so we'll see.
I figured they would make contact with a top 3 or 4 prospects over the past week and come back and fire Shula if they got someone on the line. If they did not get who they wanted then they would require him to clean out his offensive staff half-hoping that he would, although knowing he might request to be fired and take the buyout.
Kurt, how do you know that conversations haven't aready taken place? Fact is, you don't. I can tell you without reservation that Alabama started putting out feelers three weeks ago.
Most coaches cannot be officially contacted (or refuse to be contacted) while their respective seasons are still underway.
Please stop commenting on a situation of which I have forgotten more than you'll ever know.

Kurt, why not just worry about your own team? Regardless of who Alabama chooses, it will be an upgrade. Neither you, nor anyone here, has a clue about the things that truly led to Shula's dismissal. Want a comparison? Think Ron Zook.
