Keep going Republicans..whatever....Hispanics will be 30% of the US population in 2025--they are, right now, a very Conservative voting block (well my Cuban American friends are)--keep trashing women and Hispanics..whatEVER!!

Hispanics will continue to rise through the ranks politically and I predict that some time in this century we'll have a president named Jesus.:D

You just summed up the views of around 80 percent of the population, and my own view as well. However, I do not feed the federal government has any right to make these decisions for us, only the states.

This is not technically correct. It's a common misconception that all abortions are legal. The Supreme Court did not initially rule that way, and future ruling continued to refine the view. The states are given the right to pass laws that restrict abortion post a certain time period baring certain extreme circumstances.

This of course steps over the overall question of whether or not the original ruling was constitutional. Which is why this is still a hot button issue we continue to discuss.

IMHO, because that would clearly be a violation of the two consenting adult's Constitutional rights.
I really like the last paragraph of your post. I did not think of this. I totally agree with this sentence.

Sotomayor said that a wise Latino woman would make better decisions than a white male. Gibbs said that she misspoke regarding the word "better." Yet I saw on CNN four speaches in which she said the same thing. Comments?

As far as abortion goes, keep the government away from our uteri! One can't possibly enumerate all of the situations in which abortion might be the best, however difficult, solution. I am speaking as one who has had extreme infertility issues and thinks of every possible embryo as a human being, thus am opposed to abortion as a back-end means of birth control. But when undergoing infertility treatments, I had to agree that if I had multiples, I would have to undergo "selective reduction" due to a physiological problem that I have. IMO it is not the government's right to prevent anyone from making such decisions.

BR, I saw a blip on the news yesterday that the Latina comment wasn't just one comment, but four from (I forget the years) 2001-2004? In my opinion, it is a racist comment. We have got to drop race as any qualifier, period. We need to judge and discern on merit and she clearly believes that being Latina gives her an edge. Experience? Yes. Race? No.

As an American Indian (booger on 'Native American'), we are all human beings and no one is any better than the next, and certainly not due to their race. I do think that had a white person made the same statement, there would be outrage over the pick and potentially riots with increasing anger.

I agree with you 1,000% on the abortion issue! Keep the government out of my doctor's office and off my body!

IMO her one page, back door refusal of the white fire fighters petition to allow implementation of promotions based on an approved test because no minorities scored high enough to qualify for promotion is enough for me to disqualify her and label her as racially biased. Spin it any way you want, she apparently still believes in quotas and affirmative action programs. I don't want her legislating from the bench - we have too much of that already.
This nomination already stank of identity politics - everybody was predicting a female, latino and guess what. OB is no different than any other politician in spite of his mantra of change. Perhaps worse since the hypocrisy seems all the more blatant given his build-up.

You look at a qualified and respected judge and all you can see is that she is a female and a Latino.

Not that she has spent her life in public service, not that she has more judicial experience than any nominee in decades, not that she was a potential SC nominee under Bush, not that she has excelled academically, not that she teaches at prominent law schools, not that she is active in her community and in charity work, not that people have been talking about her being on the court for decades.

All you can see is racial/gender politics and you are clinging to a PANEL decision that upheld the decision of a lower court as a reason to justify your bigotry.
