That's why we are experimenting with phone calls to both landlines and cell phones.

We explored sending text messages to cell phone that are in a zone but it seemed to be fraught with issues as a person could just be on HWy 98 driving thru.
But as an owner who formerly rented our home, when Regional Utilities sent out notifications by phone, it would go to the owner (like me in GA), not the renter. I would try to call the house, but renters never answered. I'd leave a message, but phone messages were never listened to by the renters. Therefore I don't think that phone calls are an effective way of getting the word out to masses of tourists. It would only help residents or owners. That's why I like the idea of portable signs even though they are tacky.

Call the Mosquito Office ( 267-2112) and ask them to do an on site survey to see if there are things you can do to help eliminate the main source in your area / standing water & and container breeders.

The only two standing areas of water in my yard are a canal behind my house and Choctawhatchee Bay in the front. There are wetlands as well. I'm well-acquainted with the Mosquito Control. :)

Why not bats or more natural solutions?

We do have some bats. In the summer I see them at dusk feeding on whatever else is flying around, including mosquitoes.

FWIW, the dog fly plane wasn't effective, anyway. We got to breathe the chemicals, still had dog flies anyway. Not a good tradeoff...

In my neighborhood mosquitos aren't an endangered species. Bring on the planes, helicopters, foggers or whatever else will get rid of them.

You got that right, Navy Chief! Some would rather be exposed all summer to mosquito carried tropical diseases than suffer the minor consequences of spraying the areas where they live. My, some have evidently lived very sheltered lives.

Everyone has an opinion Andy A, and just because someone has a different opinion than yours doesn't mean they live sheltered lives. Disrespecting another persons opinion when it differs from yours just exhibits narrow mindedness. :nono1:

No matter what your position is about spraying, one thing we can all agree on is that we hate mosquitos! Despite two visits from the truck last week the critters are out in force in our neck of the swamp. One thing we can all do is try to eliminate pools of water where they can foster larvae. It does not take much water, at all. Tip all those water holding containers over! Also, I have seen them wiggling around in empty trash cans-and the rental houses that sit empty seem to really have empty cans collecting rainwater-we should tip these over, too.
