I wish they rated all of the major products. The one I use, was not tested, and it is probably the second oldest company in the biz, behind Hawain Tropic.

Good article. I noticed many of the more effective brands were lotions with the exception of Hawaiin Tropic. Guess I will use something different this year.
Youngest child gets sun poisoning easily and when she used the No A-D, she got it the first day.:yikes: Hopefully one of the others will prevent that problem.

Thanks for that report, OL. We also use that spray in 15 and 30 spf, because we love the convenience. I did remember getting more sun than I should have last time I was on the beach. Now for a real :pissed: ....I usually use the Neutrogena ultra sheer product with great results. But, an aesthetician talked me into this other brand and I used it on our trip. I now have so much color on my face that it is distracting and I can just see more wrinkles laughing at me. And that was with using my floppy hat!:sosad: Lesson learned.

Well that was an eye-opener. I always thought Bull Frog was the best out there but it didn't do very well.

It is about time they did this. For a long time, people have believed that wearing sunscreen prevents cancer, so they end up staying in the Sun for longer periods, perhaps more greatly damaging their bodies. While some sunscreens rate excellent for UVA rays, they might rate poorly for UVB. Shelter and clothing is the best protection from the sun.

I learned a very valuable lesson a few years ago at the beach. We bought a new product at the time made by Sea & Ski. It was a SPF 30 "no need to reapply after swimming all day protection". For some dumb reason I believed it. I used it on the kids and didn't think about it until later that night when they were both lobster red. It was their first sunburn and I felt horrible. I wrote the company after that and never heard a word but like I said, I learned a valuable lesson and always re-apply after swimming or just after a couple of hours. That's why I love the convenience of the spray.

I went to my dermatologist (in 2005 voted #1 dermatologist in the country by other physicians) in Atlanta last week because there was a spot on my nose that I was worried about. Thankfully it was just a pre-cancer (actinic keratosis). He zapped it; now I have an ugly nose for the Fourth. He said that the only sunscreen he recommends is Blue Lizard which used to only be available at doctors' offices, but now can be bought at CVS. He says that if you put it on first thing in the AM, you're good all day (unless you shower with soap). He says that the sprays are worthless used alone because you can't get as good of a coverage with them; it's okay to use them after Blue Lizard if you truly are out in the sun all day and need a touchup.

Gosh, the sprays are so convenient, and you don't have to "grease up" when using them (I hate that feeling). But I don't want skin cancer, so I guess I'll buy some Blue Lizard before my next trip to the beach.

I'm going to go get some blue lizzard...thanks BR! I have a family history of basal cell spots, and I am terrified of sun poisoning! My daughter just got it on her face.... I am very mad at her!
