And there is some interesting listening on Diane Rehm's show this morning on NPR- this week is about the Tea Party movement. Today she is talking to the head of the Waco Tea Party and some guy who heads a "Family" group n the midwest somewhere. They are arguing about what the Tea Party encompasses- economics and constitution only or social/moral issues? Interesting listening (Bob - careful, your ears might bleed:lol:).

I heard that this morning. It's quite clear that the T-Party is fragmented. Sometimes they try to come off as Libertarian but it's quite clear that they are infused with ultra strong social conservatism.

I love the fact that the left is always screaming about "talking about the issues" and "Willie Horton" and the "vast right wing conspiracy" when someone is attacking them but then trot out their old masturbation videos and dirty e-mails when they wish to smear a candidate. Everybody has things in their past that they wish they had not done or said. That plays both left and right. Why not forget the past and look at where they stand on the issues. If you are truly for trillion dollar deficits, higher taxes and government intruding more and more into our lives then that is OK. Just say so and be honest about it. But argue your point instead of the snide, snarky remarks about conservative candidates.

Idlewind, contrary to what some may believe, I would love to see a good Republican candidate with some good ideas compete for these seats. I want a more balanced house. However, none of the above will appeal to moderates or Independents in the least bit. They appear to be spewing off what teaparty members want to hear without any substantial solutions to how they will accomplish it. It's all the same rhetoric. Snarky, no, disappointed, yes. The last person I want running my State is a racist. Look at those emails and tell me some are not offensive to your sensibilities. Even Republican party members feel the TParty has given the races away.

Let me digest this down to its most simple form. She didn't win because she's more conservative than Castle or because people think she can win in the fall. She won because people are tired of the same old bull crap in DC and are revolting against established politicians. She won because she's different and not a new shade of what's already there...

My two cents...

then point out the sterling background of this candidate that compels you to throw her the keys to the car. what are her list of academic, professional, community and personal achievements that deem her worthy of office. what is snide about exposing a reprobate?

Not just Republicans - I think it is not so much that people are voting FOR tea party candidates as they are voting AGAINST any incumbent politicians.

Papa Scooterbug told me he actually cares about just one of the local races - every other race he is just voting for the new candidate - even though he knows they may not be the best choice - because he is so frustrated and po'ed.

And it takes a LOT to make him mad or frustrated.

Papa is expressing the pulse of the country. They may be bad but hopefully they are better than what we have.

She might not be able to add 2+2 for all I know. But I do know the other guys have been in power for years and have done nothing but screw things up. Castle was a 9-term congressman. What has he accomplished so great that we should send him back? The definition of insanity is doing the same things over and over and expecting different results.
She may not understand masturbation, I don't care, but I do care that she understands you do not spend 1 trillion more than you take in.;-)

No, she doesn't. Her personal finances are a mess, and she initiated a frivolous lawsuit for money. I may agree that I am less concerned with a candidate's views on moral issues IF they don't make that the centerpiece of their campaign, but this particular candidate is morals-centric and financially ignorant.

Simply saying "Stop spending!" is a simplistic answer to a complicated problem, and I want candidates who have shown that they have the attention span to work these things out, not just throw a monkey wrench in the works.
