The fact is, even with a large national debt, we can have a very strong recovery with lower unemployment, large GDP growth, increasing valuations in the stock market, reasonable inflation. If all those fundamentals are good in 2012, I don't think the debt will be much of an issue. It will take longer than a couple of years for the debt to have that kind of disastrous effect on the economy.

I think the debt will continue to be an issue. Since I was a little girl, each generation has made this an issue and I think America definitely wants to reduce this. I agree that we can have a strong recovery or at least a stable recovery with lower unemployment and growth in GDP.....as far as the stock market, when you look at P/E's compared to S&P, we are at a low (over last 15 yrs.) and now is the time to get in. Market and Economy are not synonymous, but the media would have most believing this way. I really despise the media.

I don't think it was born of this President. It has gained momentum parallel to this Administration, however.

I don't understand your last sentence, but this is nothing new.......could you translate, please? :D

Right here!
Worst case from your point of view would be continued dem majority in house and Senate with strong economic recovery in 2012. Economy , unemployment etc. is based on fiscal policy less than you might think. Two years is enough time for the business cycle to turn around. A strong recovery could validate everything you're against. This scenario is plausible enough for you to be concerned.

IMHO, not this time around. Too much damage has been done. What repubs should really be concerned about is sluggish growth after they take back the house and possibly the senate.

The policies of the current administration have done little to speed things a long, which is unfortunate. The stimulus was basically debt financed make work (unemployment). We'll have to pay the bills on that someday. The FED has had a larger effect on things than any policy initiative we've seen in the last four years. I'd argue their mbs purchase program has had the most effect on the economy as a whole, shoring up business and investment by vaporizing bad debt.

When you're trying to wait out trillions of rebalancing, there isn't much you can do. What repubs need to do is push tax cuts and cuts in uneeded spending that don't hurt employment. That's something we haven't seen much of but sorely need to help consumers get back up on their financial feet while also getting federal debt growth under control. Long term, if we don't do that, interest rates rise, the debt rolls over, and then we are in a a world of hurt. No economic recovery will save us from debt as a percentage of GDP over ~60% serviced at a high interest rate. You can kiss all your precious entitlements goodbye when that happens.

The tea party is a positive development for the Republican party. It is great that finally we are seeing candidates who are different from the establishment. The Democrats and the Republican establishment have almost bankrupted this country over the past 10+ years and it is about time to see small government, small taxes, more personal freedom candidates winning. Hopefully we can get these people to Washington and begin the process of saving this country. If they go to Washington and catch "Potomac Fever" then we will vote them out and send someone else. Sending the same ole same ole is definitely not working.
Tea Party's Triumph Makes Competence Quaint: Margaret Carlson - Bloomberg The Tea Party swept to victory someone who may have paid rent out of campaign contributions, is vocally against masturbation, had staff check cars and bushes to see if she was being followed and suffers from what Karl Rove politely called a ?checkered background.?

She did not, in fact, graduate from Fairleigh Dickinson University in 1993, but just this month. She claimed gender discrimination that caused her ?mental anguish? in a lawsuit against a former employer, a conservative non-profit, and sought $6.95 million in damages before dropping the case. Her only visible means of support is less than $6,000 she earned last year as a marketing consultant.

Looks like the Tea party also backed a quality candidate in NY- Carl Paladino. Wow.

Carl Paladino's Emails: Tea Party-Backed Gov Candidate's Emails Feature Racism, Bestiality, Porn (PHOTOS, VIDEO)

Who can forget this classy email that originated with this tool - it became pretty popular- who would vote for a guy who is this tacky?
- Ahead of Obama's swearing-in ceremony, Paladino sent around a video entitled "Obama Inauguration Rehearsal." The video shows an African tribesman dancing, and is apparently popular among white supremacists.

Another example that shows how many Tea Party members have a visceral hatred of President Obama. That undertone is there - no denying it.

And there is some interesting listening on Diane Rehm's show this morning on NPR- this week is about the Tea Party movement. Today she is talking to the head of the Waco Tea Party and some guy who heads a "Family" group n the midwest somewhere. They are arguing about what the Tea Party encompasses- economics and constitution only or social/moral issues? Interesting listening (Bob - careful, your ears might bleed:lol:).

That is despicable and disrespectful! And, I point out that there is an equal visceral hatred from the left directed to members of the right as well as toward the Tea Party.

Y'all, this goes both ways.....or, is it now three ways?
