That story breaks my heart. :sosad:

Me too. :sosad: But hopefully it is a short lived situation.
MAN-go sees in some of the laundromats homeless people who come in for warmth.

It breaks my heart too. So many of the old folks have so much pride and never ask for help. You spending time with him helped him more than you probably realize. My dad died about 7 yrs ago and I was always so grateful for those who would just talk to him some because I knew he was lonely.
Thanks for helping him out - - that's what life is about.

I'm worried for this elderly man now. I hope he and his poochy make it through this. The dog has a better chance than he does. No fireplace and no electricity is not a good thing with those temperatures. I hope his power has come back on also. :sosad:

Me too. So sweet of you Luvthebeach, to take the time to help him. The world needs more people like you. God bless the old man and his wife. I'm praying for all the people without power.

Yesterday when we were at the mall, an elderly lady walked into the restroom and entered the stall and looked all around kind of confused. She pulled on the door lock and mumbles something like----do these slide or what? I realized she was looking for the door. Samantha was standing there just watching. I walked over and showed her that the door was just on the inside against the stall and pulled it for her. She thanked me and we walked out. I told Sam that someday we might be old and confused like that and we need to help others in need without hesitation. So many things have changed for them like automatic flushing toilets and water faucets. The lady might have thought the stall had some kind of new fangled door for all we know.

Yesterday morning was -9 and windy so this doesn't feel so bad.

I heard on the radio today that Fargo has 400 plus homeless on any one day, including winter months. (December and January can be so brutal.) The number surprised me. We give to many charities, including national organizations that run shelters, but I truthfully don't know what the local needs are. I am definitely going to do some research on this.

That is amazing cold! My grandmother came to the US from Norway as a child and they lived in a cabin in South Dakota that had no electricity...how they did it, I just can't fathom.

BRRR.
It's nice to see your wanting to help the homeless Krafty. :clap_1:
The sad truth is that most of them don't want to go the shelters though.
I had a friend who volunteered for an organization in NYC that drove around at night and distributed food, blankets, medicines, things like that for the ones who wouldn't go to shelters because they are scared of being harmed or robbed of what little they have. There may be an organization like that in your area.

When our electricity goes out during a storm and it's below zero and the wind is howling it always makes us think of 'the old days' when they NEVER had such creature comforts. I can't imagine how they did it either!
