I don't even want to check the temperature, to tell you the truth, because I have to take a walk today (someone had too many birthday goodies yesterday :sosad: ). I will tell you, though, that I broke down and hauled out the winter clothing this weekend. I was trying not too for as long as I could! The flannels have gone on the beds and flannel jammies under the pillows.

Speaking of flannel jammies, I just bought the cutest Nick&Nora ones, with pink flamingoes and jet stream trailers printed on it. Corny as all get-out but those silly flamingoes crack me up all the time. I got them at Target. :clap_1:
Love the jammie visual! I bet you look adorable!

it was a perfect 13 degrees when i got up just a little bit ago, although it is up to 18 now. it was 18 last nght when we drove around looking at lights. yay !!!!!!! bring on the below zeros !!

I have a pretend fireplace that warmed up the house pretty well with the help of a generator;-)

Seriously though, there are lots of folks who are getting desperate. Yesterday I went to the laundromat for the first time in about 15 years (didn't know when the power would be back on....apparently neither did the other 3 dozen or so folks who were in line to use the 20 washers and dryers that were available...aargh! ) Anyway, as I was waiting for my clothes to dry I watched a little old man walk in to the laundomat with a tiny bag of clothes...he looked so lost and confused. After watching him for about 5 minutes, I walked over and asked if he needed help. He greatfully accepted my help, saying he had never been to a laundromat and he needed to wash a few things before he headed over to the nursing home for his daily visit with his wife. He commented on how toasty warm it was in the laundromat. Turns out he's 87 years old; his wife is in a nursing home and he lives alone with his dog. He hasn't had power since Thursday evening (which is when most of us lost our power); I asked where he was staying, and he answered very matter-of-factly that he was staying in his home until the power comes back on. Now mind you, our temps have dropped to 11 degrees overnight, and this little old man was living there in the cold darkness with his dog...he said he has no fireplace, just "lots of warm clothes and blankets". I asked him couldn't he just stay at the nursing home with his wife until the power comes back on, but he replied that he could, but that he was going to tough it out with his dog. I tried to convince him that this was not a good idea, but he was adament. I stayed with him until his clothes were in the dryer and we talked. Sweet little old man..he reminded me of my own daddy who passed away 5 years ago at the age of 89. Hopefully his power is back on by now. This weather and power outage is tough on old folks, even those who think they are tough enough to stick it out without seeking help!
  you are so sweet! I hope he fairs well. :sosad:

Yesterday morning was -9 and windy so this doesn't feel so bad.

I heard on the radio today that Fargo has 400 plus homeless on any one day, including winter months. (December and January can be so brutal.) The number surprised me. We give to many charities, including national organizations that run shelters, but I truthfully don't know what the local needs are. I am definitely going to do some research on this.
Bad enough being homeless...but in sub zero temps....:sosad: :sosad: :sosad: I would make my way to warmer climates...some way some how! :sosad: How sad.

Hi Krafty from North Dakota!!! :clap_1: Where have you been?

Oh, you know, working, etc....I check in once in awhile to see what's goin' on and if Kurt has new tours posted. I lOVE looking at the beach when it's cold out. Sometimes when we're driving down the road on a moonlit night we imagine that the snow on the hills is sand on the dunes. If the windows weren't so cold it would almost work!

Me too. :sosad: But hopefully it is a short lived situation.
MAN-go sees in some of the laundromats homeless people who come in for warmth.

There is a funny part to the story. The way I found out his age was, in the midst of our conversation, he said ?how old do you think I am?? Not wanting to insult him just in case I was wrong, I replied ?75?; as he broke into a huge grin, he said ?87, but watch this? at which time he dropped to the floor and began doing push-ups! He was so cute; folks around him were grinning and I know holding their breath in the hope that he didn?t hurt himself. :clap_1:

Another cute thing was when, after I helped him load his clothes into the washer, he said to me ?I have to ask?..you?re a Christian, aren?t you?? I replied ?Yes I am?. He says ?what are you, Baptist??. I replied ?No, Catholic?. His response was ?Well, that?s okay too.? :rotfl:

You couldn?t help but love the little guy!

The high is going to be 21 here today:cool:

We're going to get to 39 above on Sat. If it's not windy that's golfing weather!

I have a question for someone smart. I just got back from my 3 mile run outside. I was multi-layered clothed on my body (only exposed skin was my eyelids), wore thermal lined mittens, but I only wore regular Saucony running shoes and not-so-thick socks. My feet stayed toasty warm. At a -20 windchill I expected my toes to feel at least a little nippy. This may be a dumb question, but why didn't they?
