This will sound odd--because who doesn't like oodles of money--but I hope I never win that much. We (meaning Merman and me) waste money when it comes our way. When my grandmother died we got a bit and we promptly burned through $10K on Persian carpets, which, ten years later, are all cat-clawed to pieces and don't match the paint on the walls. I'm waiting for Philippa to graduate from college and get her first apartment so I can "gift" her with several. ;-)
However, if by some random strike of the universe I did win a gazillion,
I'd teach someone to fish. Not really fish of course, but like that saying "if you give a person to fish, you feed him for a day; if you teach him to fish, you feed him for a lifetime." One of the few things in life that make me sad is the waste of human potential. Think of all those bright kids out there who by no fault of their own don't have the opportunity to advance themselves. Maybe it's living in a broken family, maybe it's living in a bad school district...whatever. They're the kids who fall through the cracks and what humankind misses out on because they haven't been given a helping hand is tragic. I'd use my beaucoup bucks to somehow fill the cracks. Who knows? Maybe a "rescued" kid could grow up to be a doctor or an inventor or a magnificent singer or maybe even an honest and compassionate polititian. The possibilities are endless with a little bit of cash to grease the wheel. I think philanthopy with won money is a win/win situation.
