Just an update-

church, Inc plans on making the argument that the pope can't be deposed on this because they are a soverign nation, that the bishops aren't "employees" and that despite its own internal documents instructing bishops not to report abuse to police that bishops could have called police if they wanted to.

Disgusting.

Exposing the truth and and taking "human" responsibilty seem to never win out at the Vatican. So what they are saying is that certain abuses of power and justice will continue to take place going forward, because of how the "system" is set up?...And they wonder why the flock is waning in recent years.

My perfect beach
This and Obama's new call for domestic offshore drilling are wreaking some serious havoc on my negativity fast.

As a Catholic by birth, who'd recently made a tenuous peace with my religion, I'm disgusted by this, but not really surprised. I remember telling Critter Jr. when this pope was chosen that he had dead, soul-less eyes. The ultimate irony of course, is that this is the church with an almost single-minded focus on ending abortion, yet the molestation and abuse of living, breathing, feeling children is allowed to continue.

I read something recently about morale not being something to "build up" in an organization, but rather something that trickles down from the top. I'd argue that ethics, compassion, credibility and a host of other desirable qualities operate in a similar fashion. Yes, I know it doesn't work that way in many organzations - with government being the poster child - but this is a church, founded upon the teachings and principals of arguably the greatest spiritual teacher who ever lived. To base an entire organization upon his life and teachings, and then to allow abuses of this magnitude to continue is unconscionable. The whole "infallibility" thing has been construed as a free pass for too long. It has to end.

Pontiff Pedophiles or white-washed sepulchres as Jesus pointed out
Looks clean, sounds good, but stinks if you look inside
God gives a strong warning for standing in the position of representing Him and abusing that privilege
God also gives strong warning for messing with children
God says vengeance is His-He will repay- this will not be overlooked- rest assured

God is the ultimate judge who has great mercy, but if He warns of grave consequences as those mentioned above, I would take heed. Don't be fooled by the seeming silence of God.

There is a legal system on the earth that is temporary and feebly administers justice, but there is a final courthouse that will truly be just.

If you disagree with this, that's fine, just don't expect me to change my mind or retract my statements.

I don't think anyone cares to debate the existence of heaven and hell in this thread. But whether or not these criminals are convicted in the afterlife is not my concern. I just want to see them held accountable while they are still mortals here on earth.

Well, the Pope really is the leader of a sovereign nation - called the Holy See, so he does have those legal protections.

I believe once he gets "poped" he is then considered above the law.

This is going to cripple the Church if they don't do something - hard to be a moral authority when you are protecting pedophiles - the lowest of the low IMO!

Has any reigning pope ever been un-poped? If not, this may be the year for all those guys in gowns to set some buttkicking precedent. The trick then would be finding a new pope from within the ranks whose soul isn't similarly tarnished with such wickedness and hypocrisy.

You cannot be "unpoped." The only thing he can do is resign - but only of his own free will - and the last time a pope resigned was 1415 (when there were 2 popes).

The Code of Canon Law has no provision that allows a pope's removal from office? for any reason, even poor health or psychological trauma. That's because, according to church law, there is no higher authority than the pope: He "possesses supreme, full, immediate, and universal ordinary power in the Church, which he is always able to exercise freely."

Damn, I miss JP! :sosad:

Yes, resign or die. What gets me about the sovreignty issue is that while we have sovereign immunity here, as do many governments, it can and has been overridden. Given such horrific acts, I think we'd see a sovreignty go down here.

Maybe Nostradamus's prediction was/is correct?
