What songs are your favorite work out songs? What gets you moving? Mine are getting stale- need some new material!

If you hop onto I-tunes, they have some Nike Mixes - very very good workout music. Some of them are specific to workouts - such as running -with coaching on them. Kind of mixes it up a bit!

punzy - i think you're one of the few people i know who have even heard of the psychedelic furs, much less listen to them ! love my way is one of my all time faves !!!
audie, are you serious? I think plenty of people know and love the Furs! Mr. Pod's band back in the day toured with the Furs, if you can believe it. Mr. Pod has lots of great Richard Butler stories!
Thanks!!!!We have a lot of these. I really like Rhianna. Sam has a major crush on Pete Wentz from FOB. It's her fav band. Is there a clean version of "Makes me Wonder"?;-) Did you see my post a week or so ago about this one? I played it at the carnival and had no idea of the words at the time. I was laying out in the sun listening to it on my ipod and the words were so clear. I was :yikes: that I had played it unknowingly for K-6 graders.
Uh-oh, I don't think so. One version only in iTunes, and I must not have listened very carefully...oops.
I'll find the thread so I can  .

You have to find songs which have rhythm of the pace you want to walk. I bet there is a website somewhere which allows you to search for songs by the number of beats to a measure.

I did what SJ said with my own stuff and my metronome. These are mostly for running, but they work with my weight training and stationary bike, too.

I don't know what you like, but here's the OLD SCHOOL version:

Gotta Get Drunk--Willie Nelson and George Jones
I'm Alright--Kenny Loggins
Rocky Raccoon, Ob-La-Di Ob-La-Da--Beatles
Dance This Mess Around, Love Shack, Rock Lobster--B-52s
Dancing With Myself, Rebel Yell--Billy Idol (great for sprints!)
Livin' on the Edge--Aerosmith
It's my Life, Livin' on a Prayer--Bon Jovi
Born to Run (duh!)--Bruce Springstein
Top of the World--Carpenters
You Can't Hurry Love--Diana Ross & the Supremes
Boys of Summer--Don Henley
I Walk the Line, Ring of Fire--Johnny Cash
Only the Young, Don't Stop Believin', Girl Can't Help It--Journey
Love Will Turn You Around--Kenny Rogers
That's What I Like About You--the Kinks
Mama Tried--Merle Haggard
I Want You to Want Me--Cheap Trick
Still the One--Orleans
I'm a Believer--Monkees/Neil Diamond/Eddie Murphy
Time Warp--Rocky Horror Picture Show Soundtrack
Don't Speak--No Doubt
Bring on the Night/When the World is Running Down--The Police (better yet, Sting's version from his Live album, circa 1990)
Don't Stand So Close to Me, De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da, Every Little Thing She Does is Magic, Message in a Bottle--The Police
Under Pressure, Bohemian Rhapsody--Queen
Jesse's Girl--Rick Springfield
Alive and Kicking, Don't You Forget About Me--Simple Minds
Little Miss Can't Be Wrong, Pocket Full of Kryptonite, Two Princes--Spin Doctors
Higher Love, My Love is Leaving--Steve Winwood
Free Falling, American Girl--Tom Petty
Right Now, Top of the World, Running with the Devil, Panama--Van Halen
Rhythm of Love, Hearts, Owner of a Lonely Heart, Changes, Hold On, Leave It, Love Will Find a Way--Yes

For any of you who may look at this list and think I'm on crack (or that I watched too much MTV from 1982-1989,) I ran the Disney Marathon in January. Many of these songs were playing at some point or another on the course. (Gotta Get Drunk was obviously not one of them. In fact, none of the country songs were...:dunno: ) I felt validated.

Ipod???:dunno:  fagetaboutit...don't have one....but I have been listening to Marc Broussard lately...an New Orleans musician
click
see if this works to hear part of his song Home

Saw him in Atlanta Sunday--incredible!

audie,
Somehow I missed your post re: Psychedelic Furs until I read peapod's post, but I've always loved them! And The Clash! And Big Audio Dynamite.
I can't tell you how many times I've danced (back in the day...) to Love My Way. Wow, what a blast from the past.

Nohall,
love lots on your list too. Under Pressure, Owner of a Lonely Heart, Dancing with Myself. But you can leave Tom Petty off. (disclaimer: just my opinion - don't want to tick anybody off.)

Michigan but someday in SoWal as well
I have lots of music on my iPod, but when I walk (which is what I do for exercise around home mostly) I listen to free lectures that I download from different universities about different topics, and I download some NPR shows. But I truly enjoy it! I balance this intellectual stimulation with a subscription to People Magazine. When I work out in the basement at home I watch TV at the same time (sorry, SJ).

When I'm at the gym I listen to whatever music they play there. But this thread has made me think about what music I'd play while exercising -- maybe I'd try it with some of the music recommended here, some that I've heard before and some that's new.
