Twice, yesterday and today, I was passed on 30-A between the stopsigns at BMB and Grayton. It happened going both ways, yesterday closer to the BMB stopsign and today closer to the Grayton stopsign. Both cars were locals. I was going the speed limit and even just above it but not over 5 miles above it. They were going at least 55mph each time and did the quick cut around, fly by and cut right in front of me to get back on the right side of the road.

People, it's the holiday season and it's slow. We live in paradise. Why the heck is everyone driving like maniacs?:dunno:

True dat!!!
30A is getting crazy.
Out on Eden Drive it has become a speedway. The neighbor and I were nearly struck crossing the street, we yelled at the driver to slow down but she gunned it instead. Of course, she was yelled at three houses up as she nearly hit the neighbor's husband in front of house where some kids live.
I often forget myself and go from 15 to a smokin' 25 before I realize it but make sure I have it under control on the curves at the very least.

I've seen people FLY by Bay Elementary with a line of cars waiting to drop off/pick up their kids. I just shake my head and wonder.

Not sure of your exact circumstances but that area is one of the extremely rare legal spots for passing (dashed yellow lane marker) on 30A. I'm not justifying the villainous speeder's actions but he/she may have simply been taking advantage of the fleeting opportunity. I live in BMB and travel that section almost daily; I have both passed and been passed on that same stretch of road. In my opinion it's one of the safest places to pass someone on 30A... when done properly. Again, I'm not advocating speeding in general but quite often find that I travel 5 to 10 over the limit in that area with no remorse.

The speed limits throughout South Walton are somewhat of a mystery to me. In some areas it seems as if some drunk with a stack of variously marked signs drove through 30A and 98 putting up whatever was on the top of the stack. My office is just East of 393 on 98 and the speed limit is 45 (a pretty rural area), yet 10 miles away between Miramar Beach and Destin (a congested area with much heavier daily traffic, and sometimes unbelievably heavy traffic in Summer) the speed limit is 55! From 331 to the Walton Co. line the speed limit on 98 increases and decreases many times with little rhyme or reason and no consideration for actual daily traffic conditions. I think this contributes to accidents as one person drives 45 (the posted limit) and another drives 65 (thinking they're going 10 over in a 55 due to the frequent changes).

Have you ever noticed that everyone driving slower than you is an idiot and everyone driving faster is a maniac?

Last week, I too, was passed on 30A, while going slightly over the speed limit (double yellow line), in Seagrove. If I would have seen him trying to pass in my mirror, I would have blocked him.

I am guessing that even after years driving on 30a, I can still count the number of times I have passed people on my hands - and they were going well below the speed limit at the time.

Certainly won't claim that I am a patient (or skilled) driver, but actually passing someone on 30-a is rare.

Driving is certainly going downhill - I have a bit of a lead foot and it is becoming a common occurrence to be tailgated on 98 in the right lane while exceeding the speed limit - WTF!!!

BTW, what does the DMV license plate w/ the stars on the side represent - both to and from the airport for thanksgiving flights I was appalled by people w/ that plate!

then there's the non existent three way stop with blinking light in Seaside. :bang:

Are you being sarcastic about the actual one or the one that people pretend is on the western end of the loop?

Need more info, is this a Florida plate you are referring to? If it is a Florida plate then it is most likely this one. Those guys are used to going fast.

No, it is a very simple plate - it has the red letters DMV at the bottom and a stripe of blue stars along the left side.

I feel ya organicmama. I was passed on 30A( I was actually going the speed limit) right in front of Sally's (by the Seashore), and along the curve just past it!

But my normal problem on 30A, is trying to get somewhere and getting behind the car that is taking a Sunday Drive going at the rate of a turtle.:bang:
