Frankly this debate is political gotcha and is wrong on both sides. The left was wrong to attack Bush then and the right is wrong to attack Obama now. And Emanuel is way out of line for attacking Hayward when they are doing the same things. It is all politics at its worst.

People, be they president, ceo or laborer need a break from stress to function efficiently. How they do that is their business. In my own limited personal experience my best ideas have come when I step away and go to the course or the lake or some other diversion. I heard a great quote recently: Don't mistake activity for achievement.

There is enough to be legitimately upset about so these unimportant issues should be left alone.

Frankly, I think it is pretty childish for anyone to be criticizing either one of these guys for taking a break, of any sort. They both are under incredible amounts of stress, and they are simply human beings, after all. Anyway, in their positions, all you can do is delegate and hope that your subordinates respond with intelligence and diligence. Hand-wringing doesn't help anybody.

Where were your comments when the media was constantly bashing Bush for playing a lot less?

Andrew: This is probably the most fair and balanced statement I have ever made and you are trying to spin it into Bush-bashing? Let it go...

Also, see Buz's comment, above, on the documented number of days that Bush took vacations.

Again, my comment was completely benign.
