Get out of the heat! Go somewhere cooler for your vacation. A change of scenery is nice; a change of climate is a double-hitter!
Not me. I am a Southern girl and have always despised being cold (thank God for my huge fur coat for NYC and Boston trips in the cold months). I mean, living in Spartanburg, SC, was way too cold for me. I'm serious. I'd much rather be hot. ;-)

You mean if the Kitty called you up today and asked you to join her in Maine, you'd say thanks but no thanks? It's in the 60s - 70s there. Is that too cold for you? (that's what I mean about going somewhere cooler when it's hotter--20 degrees difference is plenty for me any time!)

We spent the last 10 days right where you live! We live in Dallas and the past week it was 102-106 degrees. How amazing it was to call home and tell them it was only 90-92 degrees here. It seems funny to come to the beach to escape the heat back home. For us, this is where we relax for 10-14 days a year. The only decision I have to make while I'm here is which bathing suit I'm going to wear that day. I don't talk on my cell phone, check my email (well, not very often) or stress that the beach towels aren't perfectly clean. I'm just a slug!!! South Walton is my idea of the perfect vacation.

Well, I'd go to have major funn with Kitty. It would be awesome. My furs are in storage. So I'd take some cooler weather clothes and clothing that wouldn't make me look like a hick from the South.

I know how those people up there think -- that people in the South use outhouses -- daughter heard that many times as a student at MIT. Prior to making her college decision, when daughter went to visit Columbia in NYC, among the Ivys at which she was accepted, they disparagingly referred to Atlanta as being "in the country." I guess they thought that a Southern accent was equivalent to being ignorant, yet they knew that hubby has a Ph.D. in engineering and I have a Ph.D. in mathematics. They were such snobs towards us and the South as we were having dinner with them at a tony NYC restaurant that, after we left the restaurant, I asked the cab driver to run over the MFers. :rotfl:

My last few vacations:

Key West, Las Vegas, Tallahassee, Atlanta, Boston, and Orlando.

Key West is a hoot and kind of like a condensed 30A. Of course I'm talking about Key West and not one of the other keys.

Since my girls are little, when we go on "vacation", I drive up around Freeport, over to the midbay bridge and back down to Destin and say "We're here!" Then stay in a condo for a couple of days.
I'm sure they'll catch on eventually.

My nine year old and I camped, REALLY camped, tent and all, at Skidaway Island State Park outta Savannah. Beautiful park! Take ur bikes for the paths and ear plugs for the frogs.:yikes: Or your deef older sister that said, "what frogs?":rotfl:I must admit, I chose close to S'ah (still have bros and sis's living there) in case camping wasn't what I remembered 25 years ago! It was all and more!!! Took his electronic games and my cell phone.....he never once opened his game and I ain't sure they have cell towers there!!:dunno: Never missed it! We did Historical Savannah on the trolley ($11. tour instead of $50....same thing...WTH? Check brochures!), River street...old forts...crap boys like...single motherhood sometimes sux...he didn't like antiquing none!!! And I let him be in charge of taking all the pictures...doing great until he fooled around with the camera so much he broke the dern thing, which was both typical and expected! So we only have memories in our minds! oh yeah, in the "history lessons" he heard alot about slavery and asked if every body from Georgia used to be "Just stupid???""Just ignorant, baby." Highly recommend! Only about $300.00 was spent, even eating out!!! Shocking!
