Right here!
If your husband likes to fish and you want to get out of the heat, the Rockies are a great bet - any of the many mountain towns would be fun. (BBQ'd Colorado River Trout is _amazing_.) Or, for something tropical, rent a house for a month on one of the smaller islands of Hawaii. Kauai is amazing.

For our last vacation, we ended up mucking around Tampa for a couple of days- saw the Tigers spring training in Lakeland, thought the Lowry Park Zoo was very good and that the St. Petersburg Museum of Art was better than the more hyped Dali Museum (some interesting pieces, but they're so terrified of people taking pictures with cameraphones that they turn the lights down so low you can't see details in the works), and had some fun exploring local parks.

Also nice to do a little bit of big city shopping- ended up with a couple bags of non-perishables from Whole Foods and it's fun, though overstimulating, to wander through a central Florida IKEA.

We just got back from Port St. Joe after a couple of days of scalloping. It was wonderful. A short trip from here but completely different bays and beaches. Love to go to Birmingham to do some fine dining and hit our favorite dives.
When the season here dies down, we want to rent one of the houses right on Grayton and spend a week on our own beach with no time lost hauling stuff up and back every day.

Since my girls are little, when we go on "vacation", I drive up around Freeport, over to the midbay bridge and back down to Destin and say "We're here!" Then stay in a condo for a couple of days.
I'm sure they'll catch on eventually.

What a cute mom you are! Love this!

One day, I hope to say I am going to vacation a few days in Dallas. I also hope that I will not have to visit DD while there, because she will be living in SoWal, too. Dreams are good! :D

Glacier is on my list; I hope to take the train from New Orleans through Chicago and on to Glacier. Any tips you can share about the park especially accommodations?

Thanks

I envy your train trip! We go next month and I will post when we get back. In the meantime, I found the Trip Advisor forum and the glacierparkchat forum very helpful.
