Common sense...... and liberals choose not to use it but instead fight it.
Liberals are the squeeky wheel and many conservatives choose to be quiet.I registered as an independent at 18 but at 38,have found myself more conservative lately, things have really changed radically in my short life. The democratic party has allowed itself to be controlled by a handfull of far leftists.
the situation spanking your rear was not created by your leftist conspiracy theory

those are the kinds of ridiculously juvenile emails that we send privately to like minded people so as not to offend those who do not think as ridiculously as we do (regardless of which side you are coming from). while meant as a joke, unfortunately, they are still meanspirited and people forward them for meanspirited reasons. so I don't read them and I don't forward them to anyone regardless of how "clever" it was written - its still just mean and quite juvenile - and this is one of the most unclever ones I've ever seen! surely there are better ones out there that are written to really cut someone down!!! better yet, surely there are better things to share with others.

I know one person, I told him diplomatically after he politely offered, that I didn't want to be on his cute joke email list because I'm just not into that. That's the truth. Otherwise every day I'd be getting all kinds of office humor, bald cat photos, you name it. He's respected my wishes, well except when he has a strong political message to get out. I'm not sure if he knows on which side of the fence I lie (or is it lay, I'm not too sure), but I can tell you it's different from his. I ignore and delete. Some just can't help themselves.

All the couplets contrasting Rep/Dem positions in the original EG post are based on strawman arguments. That is, an actual Dem position is not stated, but rather a distortion of a Dem position, or one that some Dem somewhere has is attributed to all Dems. It is easy to make a strawman position look obviously wrong.

It's easier to control people when you can divide them into little camps and let them fight among themselves. The Nazis were a case study in this...first, turn the "other" into caricatures with the use of stereotypes that make the target audience feel smarter, superior, and entitled. Then, foster a feeling of contempt for the other side. Once you've dehumanized the other group in the minds of your supporters, summarily dismiss all their ideas as rubbish unworthy of your time. Push the two groups further and further apart, and eventually everyone will lose sight of the simple fact that they all want the same outcome -- a safe and prosperous county/state/country.

I know Republican vegetarians, and Democrat gun enthusiasts. The difference? One believes the wealthy are best able to determine the future direction of our country, and one group believes that rule by concensus leads to a more stable, just, and prosperous future. The goals are the same, and we are all trying to find a balance between taxes and regulation and public health.

Don't lose sight of the fact that we are all Americans, and the best form of government is never single party rule -- it's the balance between the two extremes responding to the times that makes us a strong and vibrant country.

I've determined that I'm both a Republican and a Democrat, but neither. Truthfully, I think I'm really just a semi-conservative Floridian with a penchant toward being a smart-ass...
