ya know, Tootsie, I am beginning to think that they are "really that stupid"...
and filled with fear--it is amazing!
Think what could be accomplished if all this fear-driven energy was channeld into positive things like: finding a good solution to health care; a cure for cancer and all the other horrible diseases; helping to get clean water to the millions of people who do not have it; finding homes for homeless people; doing something about the horror of child labor...ending wars; and in the meantime helping families of deployed troops; providing whatever care veterans need without years of "red tape"; improving education for all children; choosing to take your "stuff" off the beach; when you leave for the day; having principles that will prevent sub-prime loans; supporting the president as an American first and a political advocate second or third...the list is endless. And, it is heartbreaking to me when I see where so much energy is placed these days.
There is nothing about buying guns and ammo that precludes doing good deeds!
Sadly, they are buying the guns (and ammo until it runs out) out of fear/hysteria that the newly elected black president will take away their guns.
Words fail me when faced with that level of ignorance. At least buying guns because of the economy/concern for increased crime would have some logic - this is just stupidity and propaganda.
Hoo boy! Where do you come up with these theories? How would buying guns keep us from having a "newly elected
black president?" I've never seen or heard any evidence at all to back up that reasoning.
...people are buying more guns and ammo for the same reason folks bought dot.coms; dot.condos and beanie babies--clueless herd mentality. It's just simply another bubble.
I think you are close.
According to this article:
Fear and Greed Have Sales of Guns and Ammo Shooting Up - WSJ.com
The fear is that with democrats in power in congress and the white house, further restriction on gun ownership is possible. I don't think there is enough support even among democrats.
The bigger incentive is greed/selfishness - just like in most things. It's like when there is a hurricane near the Gulf and everyone runs out and fills the cars, boats, and gas cans with fuel.
