Yeah, Chickpea, the kid spent his 18th birthday in Paris on Bastille Day five years ago--he said he'd never seen such madness but had a great time.Chickpea said:Bastille Day in France is nuts to begin with - if France wins it will be insane but marvellous - just tell your son to stay off the Champs Elysees - much better places to be.
OK - hope France wins........
<========== I have a Bastille Day baby too! I will have to remember this for him later. I can tell he is going to be a party animal. :roll:Cil said:Yeah, Chickpea, the kid spent his 18th birthday in Paris on Bastille Day 6 years ago--he said he'd never seen such madness but had a great time. Now he is turning 23 next weekend, and hopes to repeat the craziness.
Hi girl! How funn to be working in France! We want a report when you get home!potatovixen said:I've been watching, but I'm not currently in SoWal.
I've been in Biarritz, France for the past two weeks, working in a restaurant. Every time France wins a game, people are out in the streets cheering and honking their car horns until at least 1 in the morning. It's really cool to be here while the whole thing is going on.
(I'm still here for another four weeks. It's nice, but I sure do miss home.)

Chickpea said:I also have a Bastille baby - my oldest girl was born on July 14th even though I went into labor on the 12th - my husband kept pleading with me to hold out till the 14th and I kept telling him, " ARE YOU KIDDING ME????" the 14th was 2 days off - but to cut a very long story short, my beautiful baby girl was born at 13 minutes past midnight on the 14th making her a little frenchie in my heart - and because we are often in France on her birthday I have had to explain to her that she cannot have fireworks at EVERYONE of her b-days....she has come to expect them.
Needless to say I am so envious of all of you currently now in France so hope you will all enjoy it for us - Cil - hope your son has another amazing time!!! And Potatovixen - enjoy Biarritz!
GO FRANCE - ALLEZ LES BLEUS............ can barely wait till tomorrow....
She is adorable!:clap_1: enjoy the experience...not many people get to do what you are doing! Next year...Italy!!potatovixen said:Absolutely! It's definitely been interesting, as I don't speak any French. The only English-speaking people in the kitchen are the chef and one of the dishwashers, but they'll only speak it if necessary. Which isn't very often.
But other than the language barrier and the initial feeling of "Oh my God, I want to go home," everything's been amazing.
