Brand name:
Medrol
Pronounced: MED-rohl
Generic name: Methylprednisolone
Why is Medrol prescribed?

Medrol, a corticosteroid drug, is used to reduce inflammation and improve symptoms in a variety of disorders, including rheumatoid arthritis, acute gouty arthritis, and severe cases of asthma. Medrol may be given to people to treat primary or secondary adrenal cortex insufficiency (inability of the adrenal gland to produce sufficient hormone). It is also given to help treat the following disorders:

Sorry sweetie, you got roids.

Yeah--I looked it up this afternoon. I'm just hoping that it won't keep me up since it's different. Prednisone didn't always keep me awake...just the last couple of times.

medrol is prednisone. Also, follow what your doc says, not what the pharmacists typed on the bottle. And the tapering down is for those who've been on higher doses for longer periods of time. But do call your doc or his nurse tomorrow a.m..

Oh, one other thing, prednisone always makes me crave sweets - Froot Loops in particular.

Similar, but not quite the same. Medrol is methylprednisolone, which is slightly different.

Here's a funny story: Several years ago I was dogsitting for some friends and had a raging case of bronchitis. The dog had a painful hip problem. We were on the same dose of prednisone--this was actually the first time I was put on it. The owners told me to give it to the dog just before bedtime and hide all the food. She had once eaten an entire bowl of candy (still in the wrappers) after her medication.

Oddly enough, it worked as an appetite suppressant for me...go figure.

Yes, ma'am... (But I'm still gonna give my doctor the benefit of the doubt. He's done good by me!)

I feel confident that you're definitely getting the correct help and guidance. You'll feel better very shortly I bet!

Sleep well. Listen to some soft music or talk AM radio. Seriously. It works for me every time. ;-)
