Hibiscus Coffee & Guesthouse Celebrates 30 Years With Specials & Events
February 8, 2024 by SoWal Staff
Hibiscus Coffee and Guesthouse is an old-fashioned romantic getaway in the heart of Grayton Beach. The Guesthouse includes 13 distinctly different accommodations, all furnished and decorated with a vintage "old Florida" feel.
Way back when in May of Nineteen Hundred and Ninety Four (1994), Hibiscus Coffee & Guesthouse welcomed its first guests!
the present year of 2024 marks the beloved guesthouse's 30th year in Grayton Beach. And to the best of our knowledge, that makes Hibiscus the oldest business in town.
Hibiscus has created special offers and events to thank loyal guests, for making their successful journey possible. While there will be a special celebration in May, the only thing known for certain right now is that there will be the creation of a time capsule.

Introducing Raw & Juicy
After 29 years, Hibiscus made the hard choice to pass the torch in the cafe and we are partnering with another longtime, local favorite, Raw & Juicy. Jenifer Kuntz and her team took over operation of the cafe during the Songwriters festival last month. Rest assured, breakfast will still be included with your stay and things will work much the same as they always have. So far, guests are saying the food is awesome and it is our hope that Raw & Juicy will do an even better job than we did at giving our guests an unforgettable and enjoyable breakfast experience.
Wendy Mignot Fine Jewelry
Hibiscus is also excited to welcome another longtime, local favorite, OG leather and pearl jewelry artist, Wendy Mignot. Wendy Mignot Fine Pearls & Leather Jewelry store will be taking over the Art Deco Room and setting up shop. Wendy and Jean-Noel have been doing a lot of work getting things ready, and they expect to be open for business by Feburary 10th.
Hibiscus Guesthouse opened in May of 1994 when Kurt, Barbara, and their son, Warren Tape moved to SoWal from Louisiana. Burt’s Barn, one of the oldest buildings in Grayton, was about to be torn down when Kurt happened upon it and bought it, then moved it to the spot where Hibiscus Guesthouse stills remains to this day.
The Tape family restored it back to its former beauty and opened for business. In 2006 they built the new guesthouse to accommodate their ever-growing client base. Each year, business gets better as tourism in SoWal continues to grow. The quaint bed and breakfast style hotel stays nearly full throughout the year.
The Tapes believe the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness and faithfulness. They are always trying to yield to their better selves, and to that end they have a “Be…” board. It hangs out in the front of the guesthouse and has been up for about 20 years. Each day, a word is written on the board as motivation for passers by to “Be Better”. Many people believe the “Be” of the day speaks directly to them - Be Kind, Be Gentle, Be Dreaming, Be Positive, and so on.
Walking onto the grounds of the Hibiscus Coffee & Guesthouse in Grayton Beach is like taking a step back in time. A time before traffic, rampant construction, and other such irritants to peace of mind. STAYING at one of the Guesthouse rooms is even more timeless and will slow down even the most hectic of modern lives.
