South Walton Holiday Parade, Turn On The Town, and Santa at Seaside
November 20, 2012 by SoWal Staff
Come on down to Seaside this weekend and help us light it up and weclome Santa Claus! Grab your blankets and head to the Seaside Amphitheater at 7 p.m., Friday, Nov. 23, for a holiday edition of Central Square Cinema featuring the Christmas comedy “Elf” on the lawn in Central Square. Will Ferrell at his funniest!
Holiday events continue on Saturday, November 24th with the Seaside Farmers Market from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. The market features a variety of local vendors featuring fresh produce, baked goods, dairy products, native plants and even some special holiday treats.
New to Seaside this year are on-the-beach photo opportunities with sand sculptors Mark Flynn of Sand Odyssey and Rick and Capri Mungeam of Beach Sand Sculptures. Bring your family, kids and friends and camera and head out to Seaside beach on Friday, Saturday or Sunday, Nov. 23-25, for photos with the sand sculpture. For $10 cash or check, take away your own Seaside holiday photos perfect for Christmas cards, the grandparents, holiday portraits or gifts.
Then grab your spot along Scenic 30A for the Annual South Walton Christmas Parade, which begins at 4 p.m. in front of Seagrove Plaza. Residents and visitors share in the glory as participants march 1.5 miles down Scenic 30A from Seagrove decked in their Christmas best on festive holiday floats. The parade ends in Seaside as visitors welcome Santa to town aboard a vintage fire truck.
The celebration continues with Turn on the Town at 5 p.m. as Santa and Mrs. Claus take the stage in the Seaside Amphitheater. Santa, master of ceremonies for the evening, will invite all of the kids to join him in front of the stage for a sing-a-long before magically brightening up the town.
Then, the countdown begins in unison to “Turn on the Town” and, right on cue, the magnificent 24-foot tree lights up; all of downtown Seaside is illuminated with bright, holiday lights! Following the lighting, bring your camera and have your picture taken with the jolly man from 5:30 – 8 p.m.
