Community Clean-up March 8-10 Hosted by Commissioner Sara Comander and Public Works
February 26, 2013 by SoWal Staff
Beginning Friday, March 8 through Sunday, March 10, from 8am to 4pm, District 4 Commissioner Sara Comander will be hosting a community clean-up weekend in Miramar Beach at Legion Park on Ponce de Leon Street.
The Walton County Public Works Department will be providing dumpsters for Walton County residents to dump trash, yard debris, tires, appliances and other miscellaneous items. There will also be a crew and equipment to offload heavy items.
According to Comander, “These types of community clean-up opportunities give residents that don’t live close to the landfill the opportunity to clean up their yards and houses. It helps communities clean up their neighborhoods and they provide a good service to the community. By expanding it to a three day event, it will expand the opportunity for citizens to participate.”
In addition to providing a place for residents to bring their trash and other debris, there will also be separate recycling trailers on site to take in newspapers, glass, aluminum and other metals.
For this event, there will not be any dumping of hazardous wastes such as poisons, paint, gasoline or other flammables.
“I have always enjoyed the opportunity to meet and speak with the residents during the clean-up days,” said Comander. “It also provides me with a wonderful opportunity to work and spend time with the district public works crew.”
Since taking her seat on the Commission in 2006, Commissioner Comander has been hosting community clean-up events in her district three to four times per year in locations including Choctaw Beach, Villa Tasso, Freeport, Woodlawn and Santa Rosa Beach.
