The Alys Shoppe Opens with Style

July 22, 2013 by Jill Tanner

Nestled amongst the palm trees in the heart of Alys Beach is the town's inaugural retail building – the Alys Shoppe. The new urban town is known for its unique architecture, clean lines, and sophisticated style, and the Alys Shoppe embodies the town. Every square inch of the elegant boutique boasts carefully chosen designers from around the world – each with a special story. From the flowy, comfy dresses to the beach ready tunics and covers to men’s Italian linen, hats, and swimsuits, Alys Shoppe has taken the concept of a boutique to a high level.

Megan Trent, Director of Retail for Alys Beach, has been working toward the opening for two years. With extensive experience in retail and a creative eye, she was perfect for the job. Her goal was to marry the classic Alys Beach brand with high-end apparel, with the character and spirit of Alys Beach. She was given leeway to flex the concept in order to create the identity of the town's first retail store.

Town architects Marieanne Khoury-Vogt and Erik Vogt designed the façade of the Alys Shoppe to reflect the spirit of the very distinctive town. RGLA, a retail design firm out of Chicago, worked closely with Megan to lay out the space so it flowed organically. Creating the Alys Shoppe took time and ingenuity, and the end result is breathtaking.

Inside the Alys Shoppe you will find exquisite brands from around the world, including jewelry, hats, accessories, clothing, and home décor. The Alys Shoppe is the first in America to carry Beach Candy, a line from London that uses hand-printed silks and cottons from India to make beautiful dresses. S. Carter, a jewelry company from Atlanta, uses exotic elements like alligator teeth and snake vertebrate to create each unique design. The first local designer to be in the Alys Shoppe is Gaelle Legoff, a hat designer originally from Ecuador, who works with Ecuadorian women to create stunning hats. Make sure you look for the “Johnny Depp” hat while you are in the Alys Shoppe. Megan searches for interesting designers that produce limited amounts of their designs. She looks for designers with a great story, a unique aesthetic, and those who are eco-conscious and practice fair trade.

The classic Alys Beach tee-shirt collection is also a big part of the Alys Shoppe. The colors of the shirts will change every season, so colors start to be the annual thing people look for to remember that year’s vacation by.

The Alys Shoppe has not only raised the bar in goods, but also in service. The staff is well trained, knowledgeable, and always looks for ways to delight a customer. The Alys Shoppe is not to be missed. Take a little cruise down there and see what the most attractive new Shoppe in South Walton is all about.
