St. Joe Community Foundation Awards Education Grant to Man in the Sea Museum

The St. Joe Community Foundation recently awarded a $1000 grant to Man in the Sea Museum to provide library and outreach programs for area students and visitors.

Man in the Sea Museum, located in Panama City Beach, gives free entry passes to each fourth-grade class in the area. Students learn about a range of topics, from the history of sea exploration through collections of artifacts, to water-based laws of physics through hands-on experiments. The learning center and library also provide students with access to both historic and current materials on ocean research and deep sea diving.

Museum exhibits include treasure recovered from sunken ships dating back to the 1500s, and modern commercial and naval equipment, vehicles, and habitats. Visitors can even tour SEALAB-1, the world's first working undersea habitat, and learn the critical role this vessel played in both ocean and space exploration.

“The St. Joe Community Foundation is pleased to provide this grant to the Man in the Sea Museum to help support its educational programming for area students and visitors,” says Janet Greeno, Executive Director for The St Joe Community Foundation.   “The museum has collected and preserved artifacts and equipment related to sea exploration and underwater activities that visitors, both young and old, will enjoy.”
