South Walton is beautiful in ways that challenge the imagination. Word has gotten out about our sleepy collection of sophisticated-yet-casual communities whose prominent allure is the pristine white-sand beach and its complement – the glistening emerald-hued Gulf. While the shore whets travelers’ appetites, it’s what’s off the beach that may be most deserving of our attention.

Powell Lake straddles Walton County and Bay County and borders much of Camp Helen State Park on the gulf side and the development of Wild Heron on the north side. It is the largest of the coastal dune lakes in Walton County and allows motorboats and jet skis. Access the lake at Camp Helen State Park, county park at N. Walton Lakeshore Drive, or the Lake Powell boat ramp in Bay County. Approx 800 acres.
Camp Creek Lake begins on the northern portion of Deer Lake State Park and runs south under Scenic 30A to WaterSound Beach. There is access at a county easement on Camp Creek Road North. Approx 70 acres.
Deer Lake is completely within the borders of Deer Lake State Park, with an entrance on Scenic 30A just east of Seagrove Beach. Approx 38 acres.
