The next day we woke up around six in the morning and headed down to Nelson Bay, roughly a 45-minute drive south from the farmhouse. Here we planned to take a helicopter and fly over the lakes to get some aerial shots.

WaterSound Beach has wide boardwalks meandering among spectacular dunes and beautiful homes along the Gulf in South Walton County, Florida.
Just to the east is Camp Creek Lake, a rare coastal dune lake that opens periodically to the Gulf. To the west is Deer Lake and surrounding Deer Lake State Park.

Over the Grayton State Dunes and Alligator Lake outflow in Grayton Beach, Florida in South Walton County. Grayton Beach is a special place but on a day when the Gulf is clear and blue it is simply stunning. The small town in SoWal is surrounded by Florida State Park lands with massive dunes, coastal forests, fertile wetlands, and dynamic Western Lake - a rare coastal dune lake jewel.

It was a sweltering summer day with little to no cloud coverage, and we were filming a tour of South Walton with the Choctawhatchee Basin Alliance. The tour started in Topsail Hill Preserve State Park, where Park Services Specialist Jeff Talbert and Dr. Sarah Schindele pointed out a plethora of unique plants, explaining the ecology of the park, as well as the steps that are taken to maintain such a distinct and fragile natural area.
