Alaqua Receives Donation of 85 Acres and $500,000 Matching Grant

October 7, 2013 by SoWal Staff

One of South Walton's most loved organizations has big news! Alaqua Animal Refuge is a non-profit, no-kill animal refuge founded and run by Laurie Hood and dozens of volunteers. The refuge is located on ten acres of farm land west of Freeport. A recent gift of 85 acres of land was received for relocation and expansion from local resident M.C. Davis. The new location will continue to focus on providing animals shelter, safety, and second chances, but will also host educational exhibits and a zoological design for tours.

The refuge has been awarded a $500,000 matching grant by the Dugas Family Foundation to kickoff this capital campaign and the organization is seeking sponsors and donors for this project. Additional information will be available soon, but to donate to this fund and double your donation now, please click here.

The capital campaign grant will match, dollar-for-dollar, every gift received through December 31, 2014, up to a total of $500,000. If the full $500,000 is raised, the refuge will have $1 million to help animals in need and host educational exhibits and tours at the new facility.

Please make a donation before December 31st and your gift will go twice as far to help the dogs, cats, horses, pigs, and other animals who depend on us.

$5,000 donation = $10,000 total gift
$2,500 donation = $5,000 total gift
$500 donation = $1,000 total gift
