Back to Fishing in the Gulf at SoWal Beaches!

March 18, 2011 by Larry Pentel

The wonderful spring weather has coincided perfectly with the "big" spring break week here at the beach. Warm temps, calm seas and LOTS of folks in town mean I get to run trips everyday.

Spring Break has lots of younger anglers - I try to get 'em all to catch fish, even if it takes a little help from a rod holder.

The big news is there have been several cobia caught!

I haven't looked for 'em yet, running my folks on the "sure thing" bite offshore instead until the run kicks in in earnest.

I would think that this weekend will be the start of pretty much knowing you can find a fish.

The "sure thing" bite make another angler proud!

Hang On! Just because you can get 'em on doesn't mean you can land 'em. This young angler did great, landing quite a few before Dad!

Proud anglers

The triggers have shown up pretty good too, we caught 8 keepers this morning before running offshore to chase Jacks. The Vermillions are here as well. As much as a Red Snapper gets all the attention I would just as soon eat a vermilion!

Snappers we can keep along with some fine jacks.

I imagine I'll start looking for cobia seriously in the next week- The spanish have shown up early so there are some other critters to occupy the time while looking for a big brown fish.

A Pair of Jacks will feed a Full House!
