Filling up the Fish Board on Grayton Beach

We have had a great time filling up the fish board the past couple of weeks. The weather has been cooperative most days with gorgeous emerald green water and hot temps. The end of red snapper season (for 7 weeks) came with mixed emotions for those of us that go every day. I hate to have to throw back a big fish but I sure enjoy getting to chase some other critters for a while.

The weather forecast has me on the hill (probably for a couple days, dang it) so I get to post some fish pics and write a report. I am always amazed at folks that want to go fishing so bad they pay no attention to the weather or safety.

I went to the beach at 5 A.M. this morning, saw three feet of surf and checked the offshore buoys that showed a 20 mph west wind and a small craft warning on the NWS. I hung out for a bit, called my folks for this AM at six and told 'em we would not be fishing.

Before I could even make it back to the house my phone was ringing from other groups saying "our charter canceled today and we want to fish, you need to take us out". As always I was polite but told 'em I had to cancel also and safety is always more important than catching a fish. Remember, The captain is the guy that isn't going to get paid if the boat doesn't go out!

Once again this 4th I was able to take the official Atlanta Bikini Fishing Team out with great success.

A squall ran us in close to the beach two hours into a four hour trip so I had my folks keep a limit of smaller Snapper than usual.... it worked out great 'cause that gave us time to catch a limit of Kings as well.

Snappers, Grouper, Scamps, Kings and lots of fishing Fun.

Dad wad sure proud of this nice Grouper. I was glad he caught it too.

Especially since his girls had the hot hooks Snapper fishing!

Yes guys, gals can (and do) land Groupers all the time.

That young man is 8 years old and can fish better than most adults. His folks let him get all the Kings not just to be nice but 'cause his excitement is so real.

We will probably be bringing in a lot more Kings in the next few weeks along with other pelagics that have been "overlooked" during snapper season. My charter on Monday had some Kings, some Mahi, Vermillion snapper and a nice Blacktip. Yesterday afternoon we had a King at 30 pounds, another at 25 pounds and 4 "regulars" on a 3 hr trip.
