Inaugural Boat Launch & Fishing Clinic at Kellogg Bayfront Park June 12

The Choctawhatchee Basin Alliance (CBA) of Northwest Florida State College in partnership with Walton County Public Works, Parks and Recreation, and Walton County Tourist Development Council, will hold an inaugural kayak/paddleboard launch to promote the public recreational use of the newly renovated Kellogg Bayfront Park in Santa Rosa Beach. Following a leisurely paddle around the Choctawhatchee Bay, the afternoon of outdoor activities will continue with the first installment of fishing Eco-Adventures at Kellogg Park, The Bayside Fishing Clinic.

Kellogg Bayfront Park, at the end of Nellie Drive in Santa Rosa Beach, was deeded to Walton County by the late Pat Kellogg in 2003. In January of this year, the park opened to the public for recreational use. Park amenities include picnic tables, water fountains, shower spigots, and a kayak/canoe/paddleboard launch, all aside priceless panoramic views of the Choctawhatchee Bay. 

“The Park is very unique,” said CBA’s Fund Development and Marketing Coordinator, Sarah Davis. “The natural setting is still intact, which heightens the outdoor feeling. The amenities are fitting of the purpose for which it was renovated. The diverse native vegetation that grows in the back drop combines with the large overhanging trees, which provide ample shade. It is the perfect Choctawhatchee Bay setting, and perfect for an Eco-Adventure!”

In an effort to drive visitors to Discover Roads Less Traveled in Walton County, CBA and Walton County TDC developed Eco-Adventures, nature-based activities that offer guests an alternative outdoor experience to the white sand beaches. The second installment of Eco-Adventures kicked off in May and will continue through the end of July. Summer adventures include a variety of activities, a few of which are located at Kellogg Bayfront Park.

“We hope that our Eco-Adventures will increase the exposure of Kellogg Park,” said Davis. “ It is a great launching point to the Bay, and even a nice place to stop for a picnic lunch. It was an investment that will benefit the local community and visitors, alike.”
