SoWal Lunchtime at Basmati's Asian Cuisine
March 22, 2019 by Molly Parker
The SoWal crew went to lunch at Basmati's Asian Cuisine Tuesday and it was as good as ever.
We're there so often we can all order for each other. Lisa usually orders the Thai Chicken Salad wrap which is filled with fresh chicken salad, Thai dressing and avacado flanked by fresh watermelon and a side of Asian slaw. They seem to have the inside hook up on fresh watermelon year round.
Teresa likes the Fish Cake salad with goat cheese, and I had the Grilled Teriyaki Salmon. It is cooked medium and topped with crunchy sweet potato strings, stir fry veggies and steamed jasmine rice.
Any of these dishes will let you walk out feeling like you’ve eaten a fresh and healthy meal...even if you started with a Spicy Crunchy Shrimp roll and fried Spring Rolls. They are filled with veggies, right?
Basmatis has created a super chill atmosphere. The light is low, the candles are lit and the black draped fabric and bamboo make you feel in the mood to stop and do sun salutations right then and there. The music is set to chilled-out, lounge-friendly electronic music. I had to ask our waiter about the Pandora station and wasn’t surprised when he said Thievery Corporation.
Be sure to leave room for dessert. Basmati’s confectionery creations are all made in house and are quite creative. Their Spiced-banana Spring Rolls are not to be missed - bananas sautéed with cinnamon and five spice, enclosed in spring roll wrappers, fried, and finished with vanilla crème anglaise and caramel sauce. Dinner is where Basmati's really shines. It's a treat to be served a stunning plate on the softly-lit porch on a summer evening.
