Panama City Beach Seafood Festival Oct 17-20

The fun-filled, four-day Panama City Beach Seafood Festival Oct. 17-20 offers mouthwatering seafood, some of the world’s most beautiful beaches and nonstop music from some of the industry’s top performers and rising stars. Featured artists include Abigail Rose, Andy Velo Band, Ed Roland and the Sweet Tea Project, Collective Soul, Loverboy, Better Than Ezra and the multi-platinum band Foreigner.

Alaqua Receives Donation of 85 Acres and $500,000 Matching Grant

One of South Walton's most loved organizations has big news! Alaqua Animal Refuge is a non-profit, no-kill animal refuge founded and run by Laurie Hood and dozens of volunteers. The refuge is located on ten acres of farm land west of Freeport. A recent gift of 85 acres of land was received for relocation and expansion from local resident M.C. Davis. The new location will continue to focus on providing animals shelter, safety, and second chances, but will also host educational exhibits and a zoological design for tours.

The judging is complete and the official results are in for our 2013 "You're So SoWal if..." contest!  We laughed and we cried, and we appreciate the flood of entries from SoWal beach lovers near and far! 

This is the third year we've had our contest and every year we've been dazzled by the creative, funny, and heartwarming entries. Thanks to everyone for sharing what SoWal means to you, especially our loyal SoWal Forum members.

Sacred Heart to Host Financial Matters Seminar on Medicare Coverage and Choices

Mainstay Financial Group will present a seminar titled “Medicare Coverage and Choices: How do you decide?” on Monday, Oct. 14, at 10 a.m. in the Suite 3 Resource Center conference room at Sacred Heart Hospital on the Emerald Coast. Participants will learn about the coverage options and costs of various types of Medicare, including basic Medicare, supplements, Medicare advantage health plans, and optional drug coverage.
 

SoWal Goes Pink for National Breast Cancer Awareness Month

SoWal.com recognizes National Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October again this year with our special edition pink SoWal stickers. The pink stickers are very popular in South Walton and are a hot item - so get yours before they are all gone! The back of this year's pink sticker promotes Olsen Women's Diagnostic Center at Sacred Heart Hospital on the Emerald Coast.

ART of Giving Raises Over $100,000 for Food For Thought Outreach

The South Walton community rallied together on Thursday, September 26 to enjoy a festive evening of camaraderie and participate in an online auction and art raffle of select works from celebrated artist Justin Gaffrey all in support of Food For Thought Outreach, a Walton County-based non-profit that provides food to local children in need.

The first weekend of October is almost here and people on the Emerald Coast know what that means - it’s time for a great weekend on the Destin Harbor celebrating the annual Destin Seafood Festival! From Friday Oct. 4th to Sunday Oct. 6th, the Destin Harbor Boardwalk will be the center of the party that locals look forward to every year.
