Fall is the perfect time to go Ecosploring in Walton County - clear and cool blue skies, sparkling gulf waters, and a breezy, relaxed feeling permeates the air. The Choctawhatchee Basin Alliance (CBA), in partnership with Visit South Walton and Northwest Florida State College, announces the fall season of its popular eco-tourism initiative - Eco Adventures of Walton County.

Take a First Day Hike at a Florida State Park on Jan 1

Walking on the beach can change your perspective. There's nothing better than being at the beach on the first day of a new year. First Day Hikes offered by Florida State Parks are a great way to get outside, exercise, enjoy nature and welcome the New Year with friends and family - or a solitary sojourn.

There are hundreds of First Day Hikes sponsored at state parks across the country on New Year's Day - but you'll find no better place than our state parks right here in and around South Walton!  
 

Grand Opening Native Plant Demonstration Garden & Trail June 21

Come out on the first day of summer, June 21 at 4 p.m., for the Grand Opening of the Native Plant Demonstration Garden and Trail. The event takes place at the South Walton Center of Northwest Florida State College, located at 109 Greenway Trail in Santa Rosa Beach. Both the Walton Area and Destin Area Chambers of Commerce will host a ribbon cutting to open the garden and trail. Immediately following, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., the Cultural Arts Alliance will host a reception with wine and appetizers to open the annual A+ Art Show.

Take a Snookie Hike Through Alys Beach Nature Preserve

Alys Beach is truly one of the most beautiful coastal towns in Florida but did you know about the nature preserve situated on the northern portion of the community? What a perfect time of year to get outdoors and explore one of South Walton's hidden gems.

Mark your calendar and plan to join eco-tour guide Snookie Parrish for a nature hike through a wetland preserve and trail at Alys Beach! Tour dates are set for March 12, March 19, March 26, and April 2 from 1-2pm. Wear comfortable shoes and meet at Fonville Press to begin your adventure.
