Topsail Hill Preserve State Park adventures in September:
White Tailed Deer
SEPT 5 | 2-3pm
Topsail Hill Preserve State Park invites you come learn about its most ubiquitous mammal, the White Tailed Deer. This program will cover the general life cycle of the park's deer, where they bed down, what the rut is, and where to find them. This is an all ages program. Enter the park through the main gate and the staff will direct you to the park's clubhouse. Entry fee is $6.
Exotics
SEPT 10 | 3-4PM
Come learn about the park's non-native visitors. You may even have some right in your own back yard. This program will teach you how to identify and get rid of plants that do not belong. Lots of time and money are spent on eradication of these plants, find out how you can help. Enter the park through the main gate and the staff will direct you to the park's clubhouse. Entry fee is $6.00.
Monarch Butterflies
SEPT 12 | 2-3pm
Soon the Monarch Butterflies will visit the park on their migration southward. Many butterflies pass through but only one is as regal as the Monarch. In this program Ranger Tammy will discuss the amazing life of the butterfly and will culminate with a craft project were you can make your own butterfly. Park entry fee is $6 and the park staff will direct you to the clubhouse where the program will be held.
Surf Fishing
SEPT 19 | 9-11am
State Park Surf fishing is a popular sport along the beaches of Topsail Hill. This program will teach you what types of bait will work, what times of year certain fish can be caught, and common fish you can catch from the beach. Fishing gear is optional. (The park has fishing gear.) This program will take place at the Beach Access, park in the Day Use parking area and catch the 9:00am Tram to the beach. The program will take place once the 9:00am Tram arrives at the beach.
Campbell Lake Canoe Tour
SEPT 26 | 9:30-11:30am
Join us for a unique opportunity to paddle Campbell Lake. Located within the heart of Topsail Hill, Campbell Lake is the largest of the parks two coastal dune lakes. You will join the ranger as he leads you to various points around the lake and discusses what makes this lake as well as the others in the area so unique. No outside canoes or kayaks are allowed on the lake so space is limited to 10 people for each trip. A signup sheet will be available in the ranger station from September 1 until September 26 and will be on a first come first serve basis. Meet at tram stop 1 by 9:30am on September 26 to catch the tram to the lake.
National Public Lands Day
SEPT 27 | 9-11am
Topsail Hill Preserve State Park invites you to come help beautify the park. The summer crowds are gone but their trash is not. Come out to National Public Lands Day and help clean up the beach. We will meet in the day use parking area at 9am to catch the tram to the beach From there volunteers will disperse down the beach. Trash bags and gloves will be provided, please bring water and sunscreen.
