The Sandestin Gumbo Festival has been known as one of the largest and most popular winter food events along Florida’s Emerald Coast. Now in its 31st year, the event takes over The Village of Baytowne Wharf during Presidents Day weekend. Kick-off the weekend Friday, Feb. 14 at Hammerhead’s Bar & Grille with a delicious Baytowne Seafood Boil beginning at 5 p.m. On Saturday, Feb. 15 from 12-4 p.m. guests will enjoy live Zydeco music from Dikki Du and the Zydeco Krewe, family activities, the best gumbo cook-off on the Gulf Coast and bloody mary cocktails!

The Friends of Eden Gardens invite the community to the annual Camellia Festival at Eden Gardens State Park on Saturday, Feb. 15 from 10am until 2pm.
Visitors are invited to stroll through amazing Camellias, enjoy a Camellia floral arrangement demonstration, learn air layering, (a Camellia propagating technique), and Camellia waxing for bloom preservation. The RUN/SUP New Year's Eve Race on 12/31/19 from 8:30 AM – 9:30 AM is comprised of a one-mile trail run and a one-mile stand up paddle board (SUP) competition, open to ages 7 and up, with awards to the top female & male!
The race starts from the Boathouse Paddle Club, RUN/SUP's flagship location in Watercolor, Florida. Competitors will transition from a trail run to a stand up paddle board on Western Lake.

The Alys Foundation has opened the call for entries for the 13th annual Digital Graffiti Festival at Alys Beach, to be held May 15-16, 2020. Artists across the globe are invited to submit original works of digital art to be showcased in the juried festival.
The 2020 awards will include Best of Show ($5,000 prize), Curator's Choice ($2,000 prize) and three Special Recognition honors (at $1,000 prize each), selected by the festival's longtime curator Brett Phares and esteemed panel of judges. The deadline to submit is February 1st, 2020 at 12AM.

The most recent SoWal Real Estate Report covers all of Walton County including South Walton real estate activity for October 2019, with statistics for single family homes, townhomes, and condos in Walton County, Florida.
Single family homes closed sales were up 15.5% for October 2019 compared to the same month last year. The number of pending sales for Walton County was up 35.2%. Inventory was down 5.1%. Median sales price was down 2.9%. Dollar volume was down 9.1% over last year at $146.5 Million.

This past week I drove my daughter to the airport so she could visit a friend out of state. On the short drive I passed a blazing red Lamborghini and a sparkling silver Ferrari California on highway 98. Amazingly, the entire drive home to Santa Rosa Beach I was behind an impressive McLaren 570S. A McLaren. On highway 98.
For those of you who aren’t car people, suffice to say that’s pretty tough to do in Beverly Hills on an average day.

Shaka Sushi and Noodle Bar (Inlet Beach) and Southside Slice Pizzeria (Rosemary Beach) are now offering delivery from 4:00PM to close every night. The delivery area is limited for now - anywhere up to 3 miles around Shades Bar and Grill. The plan is to eventually grow that radius as business allows.

There are lots of places that sell lots of bikes, but Big Daddy’s Bike Shop remains at the top of the hill.
They’ve been in business here in SoWal on Scenic 30A in Blue Mountain Beach at the top of the hill (literally and figuratively) for 21 years now for a reason: They simply have set the gold standard for bicycle sales, rentals, and maintenance.

At 5pm, it’s party time in the amphitheater with holiday festivities and of course pictures with the jolly-bearded one. People are usually surprised to find inside the gates of Wild Heron a community full of fine examples of Craftsman-style architecture.
In the early years of the 20th century, the architectural firm of Greene and Greene designed what would later be known as quintessential Craftsman-style architecture. The firm was steeped in the Art & Crafts movement and influenced by existing California board and shingle buildings. The Craftsman style is defined by low-pitch gable roofs with broad eaves, large front porches, and exposed wooden structural elements.

There are lots of foot races that take place in SoWal, but few offer the communion with nature experienced by runners participating in the Grayton Beach Kous Kouri 8 & 4 Miler to be held this year on Saturday, Nov. 30 at Grayton Beach State Park. This run is a genuine TRAIL run beginning and ending near the main pavilion at the park.
